Surely this can only be a good thing for supporters of both 'sides'

Mmmm, Chuka.

I totally like what they have written. I just don't trust Chuka somehow. Specially as the face of this campaign. They haven't written anything against Corbyn so far though in the page that you posted OP. I have a feeling it will come though at some point "oh wait you are a Labour voter who voted Leave!? Hang on! Where the hell is Corbyn? He is responsible for you not being informed properly"
Never mind that the MPs from those areas should have taken the responsibility of doing a very strong Remain that could at least pick up the lies in the Leave campaign. So how in the world can I trust a group that is using Chuka as its poster boy? Chuka will ultimately stand with his own: the useless gutless MPs. The MPs who should have resigned for the areas they failed miserably and for the reason they failed to communicate to London that the problem is really far more massive than originally thought. I would like to see the action plan of this campaign that they have for the valency six months before thinking of signing up.

Such a shame there wasn't a neutral campaign watch organisation during referendum to oversee hold the claims on both sides to account.

There should have been, FarAway. I'm slightly surprised that even the ASA didn't involve itself over some of the more outrageous claims.

Perhaps they can get Andrea Leadsom to release her tax return, which she's been promising for several days now and still hasn't done?

Political advertising is exempt from the Advertising Code, which is what the ASA regulates, so they couldn't do anything even if they wanted to.

I wondered the same about the ASA Two, especially with the Leave campaign bus having the £350million slogan plastered on it. I am also surprised the EU didn't get involved more with the campaign, to correct some of the untruths and to promote the benefits of EU in a more positive way. Instead all we got was lies and scaremongering.

far there was a fact checker program that aired, cant remember what channel but they challenged myths and lies on both sides.

On another thread someone has posted definitions of Fascism, totarlism etc and the EU falls into all the categories in some way.

This was never clearly told to the public .

That made me laugh. If they'd got involved they would have been instantly dismissed as a vested interest, and everything they said would have had the Leavers screaming and whipping up more cries of 'foreign interference'. Don't you remember how everything said by various economic bodies, experts, and President Obama was treated? They were right to stay out of it.

We could do withsome kind of semi-independent public body there to examine facts, investigate claims and rein in excessive scaremongering. Something like... the BBC in fact. Or any decent media. Shame that's just seen as business and propaganda nowadays. This body will probably go the same way.

I'm not convinced the BBC was entirely unbiased in its referendum coverage.

Me neither. They seemed to give a disproportionate amount of time to Brexit campaigners IMO.

I meant that that was the original social role of media but it has been coopted. The BBC do not make as good a job of investigative reporting as they used to. They seem to be little more than another propaganda arm now. Unless we get rid of this marriage of unsrupulous politicians and uncaring moneymakers, I think the same thing will happen to any review body. But perhaps I am just being even more than usually disillusioned and bitter following this referendum mess.

Unfortunately the group's Facebook page is full of trolls. It is just beyond me that a section of leavers are more interested in shouting 'Get over it, we won!' than they are in holding the Leave campaign group to account for any of the things they promised. If I was a Leaver, I'd be saying 'This is what I voted for and this is what I want you to deliver. Be accountable.'

I agree the BBC probably did lean toward a remain, although it did screen controversial documentaries like 'Last Whites of the East End' in the run up to the referendum.

However, some of the other tv channels and newspapers more than made up for any possible bias the BBC had. Every leave voter I know was a DM reader. I think it was channel 5 that showed a documentary about Eastern Europeans proclaiming the joys of claiming UK benefits that they send back home to pay for better lives for their families.

I can see how watching a few things like this and reading the DM would be enough for plenty to vote leave.

I'm not a Chuka fan but he did a lot of campaigning locally and his constituency returned one of the highest Remain votes in the country. If he'd done more in likely-Leave areas he'd just have been written off as one of those London elite.

Leavers seem to be in at least 4 camps over what they want to happen next, and Remainers are looking at two or three, but we need so much more planning for getting to where ever we're going. We can't just wait for our exit to trigger the breakup of the EU followed by the peaceable re-creation of the Common Market!

I don't think the BBC was biased towards a remain vote, as always I thought it was very balanced.

Andrew Neil really went for Osborne and others, there was lots of pro leave stuff on their too.

The problem with the BBC is actually that because it is neutral, if you hear it giving one side of the argument you will go "oh its biased" but when you see it give yours it doesn't register as much. Essentially you are looking for it to be biased and so find confirmation in that fact when it reports something against your POV.

There was some academic research done into it, and it turns out that the BBC gives slightly MORE coverage to pro right wing, pro business, anti EU stories than the other way around. It was done by Cardiff Uni and confirmed by another.

The thing to ask yourself is why would the BBC destroy its reputation for impartiality by doing this?

Certainly not vested interests because it gets funding, the money the BBC gets from the EU works out as about 0.06% of its budget.
