Channel 4 at last realise the huge Northern vote was not primarily about immigration but about the decades of politicians having ignored them ...

Let's see how long it takes everyone else to twig and really start to understand why.

How will leaving the EU help that?

Report
SmallBee · 07/07/2016 21:22

Yeah that's what I don't understand, if this is in protest because all our politicians have ignored them, do they expect this to now change? And didn't the EU compensate for that and provide financial support?

So they fucked the whole country. Well done them.

Fine but that wasn't the question they were being asked was it?

It wasn't a fucking protest vote!

And now they've fucked themselves and the rest of the country.

Well done. Bit of an own goal really...

The Tories will never be interested in them as they are not their constituents.

I do understand how large swathes of the U.K. feel left behind, especially in relation to London but blaming immigrants and/or the EU is not the solution.

Sadly, desperate pp make desperate decisions.

What the fuck was the point in voting to allow those same politicians to control everything then?

As protest votes go it was pretty fucking stupid Hmm

Well done you all.

Ooh we can bash the northerners as well as the old and poor now. Spiffing.

It is a really convoluted protest vote. My take on it is 'this northern former mining/steel town is not only lacking in decent jobs now, it is also overrun by insert nationality of your choice How can it get much worse for me out of Europe? leave campaign fails to give a clear riposteLet's spin the dice.' Then all the well travelled, well paid lot come in to have a moan. Or that's what it looks like on my fb feed.

I haven't seen tonight's C4 news yet (it's recorded) was it an in depth piece?

It wasn't a protest vote. In the north vast swaths of people are left to compete against EEs for jobs. These people have families and don't share housing with multiple people to make the wages work.

Actually most of the places employing people at minimum wage don't hire local people. They hire direct from EE shutting out local people.

That is why they voted out and it's one of the reasons why I voted out too. It's wrong that we have 'freedom' of movement when in reality it's not true freedom. I don't see EE companies advertising for unskilled British workers.

Contrary to popular media opinion, the majority of Leave voters were in the South and 59% of all Leave voters were middle class. (70% of habitual Labour voters voted Remain)

RockandRollsuicide · 07/07/2016 22:00

Funny how we know that want but others see its as a stupid protest vote!

i wonder how many times I read "These people have families and don't share housing with multiple people to make the wages work" and understand it and how many others do and some how gloss over it and ignore it Confused

And, how many times it has to be said - that the growth of the so called HMO's has caused massive social problems.

I say "so called" because many small homes have been turned over to lodgers who want somewhere very very cheap and easy to crash, often hosting huge numbers of people working all hours on shifts. However the houses are not properly classified HMO's meaning they do not adhere to fire safety standards or - any of the safety standards or any other requirements needed for high density living.

So a sort of wild west chaos springs up, all over the country and people have to live next to it.

No one I know voted as a protest vote, you have to remember this is Labour spin, no leader has been able to address the issues of the EU head on, so they write it off as a protest vote

its not, its a vote to get us out of the EU. which, they, we have done ( thankfully)

Report
Bearbehind · 07/07/2016 22:06

It's hardly 'spin' when posters are popping up on here saying 'at last they get it'

There are people who genuinely voted leave as they thought it was big and clever to protest against the establishment.

Shame none of them can actually justify why they think their 'protest' will change anything for the better for them.

So Want2be will you be returning to the UK so you can enjoy the fallout of your 'protest vote' Hmm

'Yeah that's what I don't understand, if this is in protest because all our politicians have ignored them, do they expect this to now change? '

No, but the people don't care as shown in today's Channel 4 news report. They showed that they are the boss and they have ended the power's plans.

Labour cannot change or listen as they are wedded to their belief system and are stuffed full of Oxbridge and metropolitan elite MPs, so they will decline if UKIP get their act together (and are not destroyed by the Establishment) or if Leadsom wins the Tory leadership and begins to appeal to the people in the North East shown on Channel 4 News today.

Not one of the people in that report mentioned the EU. It was all about protesting against politicians wages etc?

Please can someone explain how voting to give these politicians 'control' furthers your cause? I'm genuinely interested to understand your logic.

Why will leaving the EU change anything for you?

Report
claig · 07/07/2016 22:39

'Please can someone explain how voting to give these politicians 'control' furthers your cause?'

They don't care. People know that the Establishment, Cameron, the BBC, the IMF, the CBI, Eddie Izzard and Sir Blob Gumdrop etc etc were desperate to stay in the EU because they benefited from it and those voters didn't, so they voted against all the Establishment bigwigs and showed them who is boss and said "now sort that out"

Report
RockandRollsuicide · 07/07/2016 22:40

Yes claig but also because they dont want another layer of government!

Report
claig · 07/07/2016 22:41

Those voters aren't interested in "plans" that Cameron and the Etonians talk about, or lectures on "Punishment Budgets" or doom and gloom from public servants. People know it is all bullshit so they called their bluff.

Report
claig · 07/07/2016 22:43

'Yes claig but also because they dont want another layer of government!'

Absolutely. They get nothing out of it so they ended it and sent a message to the elite that they don't go along with the elite's preferences and they don't give two figs for them

Ah, so the current economic turmoil is all bullshit is it?

Nissan leaving the north east as it is no longer in the EU doesn't affect them?

Clearly a well thought out plan then.

'Ah, so the current economic turmoil is all bullshit is it?'

It will setlle., the markets will come back and the pound's fall is a positive for exporters.

Are Nissan leaving?

'Clearly a well thought out plan then.'

Most people aren't interested in "plans", that is what they pay Cameron and his team to do
