Brexit

Does anyone else wonder if Johnson and Gove have cooked this up between themselves?

It's looking very like Johnson backed Leave in order to raise his profile, become the 'voice of the people' and be the injured party when Leave lost.

He then needed a new plan when Leave won.

Standing for PM now is a poison chalice but letting someone else do the dirty work now, waiting for it to all go wrong and him waltzing in in a few years isn't beyond the realm of possibility.

I get the feeling we're all being played here. The media is making Boris out to be the injured party which suits him, Gove is running but maybe they're hoping May wins then neither of them have to face the fact the the Leaver voters aren't going to get what they wanted.

Just a thought......

That's exactly what I said when I heard. Give is the one to take the flack, Bojo will be there in the wings in a few years. I'll bet on it!

Bear, you might have already seen this, but if not.... I think you will find it funny!

It's a parody video about Boris, and how he didn't expect to win...

My first thought when heard about Johnson was that this has all been pre arranged.

That clip is very funny- I'm betting today's events are the sequel.

Yup! They need a scapegoat to invoke article 50, whoever does that ruins his career so as Gove never wanted to be a PM it makes sense for him to be the one to sacrifice. Then BJ will come back when it all goes quiet and can revive his career and become a PM.

I don't even think they're planning on Gove getting in - although planning on not winning has bitten them on the arse before so this gives them options either way.

Do you know what- this past week has been so bonkers that yes, I utterly believe this.

That said, if peppa pig came to life and was nominated to be PM and the chancellor was a pigeon, I still don't think i would be surprised. I have zero shock left to give.

Laughing man is funny Grin

Yep, me and DH said yesterday we didn't think Boris would run. Agree that they are looking for a scapegoat first, then Boris can sweep in at a later date.

I thought this too, especially after the "leaked" email yesterday, it's like the stage was being set.

There was no fight back from Johnson at all. The same man who blusters his way out of an interview even when his own words are quoted back at him, nothing stops him, nothing. Yet, he's stood down meek as can be.

Yes me too! I can't believe he managed to amend and deliver that speech in five minutes (although he was slightly hesitant). Plus they both went to see Lynton Crosby yesterday or Tuesday, it would have taken a lot of double crossing. I think they be betting on May getting it and then Johnson will run in 2020.

I love a good conspiracy theory but I also know Boris. No way in hell would he forego the chance to be PM if the numbers stacked up. He was stabbed in the back by Gove and much as I dislike Gove, I hate Boris more. It's been a weird week; never did I think I would be looking at UK politics and thinking I might actually miss Cameron. But I do have previous; I felt the same about some of Boris's early appointments which I thought were awful until I saw their replacements.

That's the whole point though- the numbers don't stack up.

Johnson was always planning on running in 2020 as that's when Cameron was always going to stand down.

Whoever runs now will be crucified as invoking article 50 is a time bomb and is never going to satisfy the Leave voters anyway as they can't deliver what Leave expect. Not invoking it is political suicide.

The ultimate 'rock and a hard place'.

This way BJ gets to go back to his original plan- it's clever.

So the plan is Gove V May, with May to win and left to invoke Article 50. Nothing new there then - boys make a mess and let a woman do the clearing up after them.

The public will believe any lie, we have evidence for that now. The politicians just have to put on a good show, that's all, no facts, no truth, just a good show.
