Farage and the fisheries

Much is made of the fact that Nigel Farage was on a fisheries sub committee but only went to one meeting. What was that meeting about and what did he say? Why didn't he go to the others? He mentioned fisheries specifically yesterday ("we want our fishing waters back")
I voted Remain as I generally think the EU is a good thing...but I think British (and Irish) fishermen really were the worst affected sacrificial victims for trade agreements. It's one thing I really didn't like about the EU.
What is the general feeling about UKIP and Farage in the UK fishing communities? Is there really a snowball's chance in hell of getting the Irish Box reinstated, for example? I think not, as fishing is such a small % of the economy and fishermen such a tiny number of potential voters so doubt whether anyone will give much of a stuff about their interests at the negotiating table.
But interested to hear the thoughts of people from fishing communities who follow these things.

Ill just park this from facebook,

People do have short memories on some of the other reasons for fishing decline. We had fishing capacity greater than the local shoals could sustain in sea at one point, so something had to be done.

Fishing is more sustainable these days but would there be safe guards to make sure we dont go back to the bad old days,

Supposedly the UK had loads of pre-EC membership agreements with other European countries. They are like very long term leases about letting those countries fish in UK waters. These leases are what drove the UK fisheries industry into decline.

I don't know truth of that, but it's said that being outside EU won't change the UK fishery industry, because those agreements/leases have decades+ still to run.

You might find this interesting.

I am sceptical that the fishing will get much more help than they had before.

I read that article.

It is as fine an example of subreption as I have seen .

No point arguing it as in a post brexit world we can merely compare the results to the scaremongering.

I'm not sure Farage has anything to do with where fishing goes from here. He isn't an MP and UKIP aren't in government. Obviously Farage wasn't helpful on the fishing committee if he only went to 1 meeting, but what did the other British MEPs say about fishing?

You mean like what idd the other UKIP MEPs do? Feck all, one imagines.
And then there's Hannan who spent 7 months full time campaigning for Brexit. No reason to go do his actual MEP job, I guess.
