Brexit

AIBU to think leave voters who said 'I'm not racist...'

...should now be shouting very loudly against the wave of racist/xenophobic attacks which have happened since last Friday.

link

While not all leave voters are racists, the majority of racists voted leave (BNP/EDL members etc). They now seem to think the vote gives them free rein to express their hateful views.

Until now, I haven't seen any 'non-racist' Brexiter say 'not in my name...' Their silence is making me feel very uncomfortable.

IMO Farage should be denouncing the attacks daily.

What is happening is appalling.

Isn't this like all those stupid demands for Muslims to "explain"/disown X terror attack?

Yes, but they won't. Either because they will shrug off all responsibility - lol, nothing to do with me, gov - or they secretly agree with it.

It is going to get worse before it gets better. I thought we had left this shit behind but it would appear not.

What exactly do you expect normal people to do about it..??

This is just idiot thugs using the result as a excuse to throw their weight around

The same happened in Scotland after Indy ref.

Do you expect normal leave voters to take to the streets and Challenge this idiots..??

This is a issue for the police to sort out and no one else

So stop being so rediculas there is nothing a normal leave person can do about it or course it's not exceptable it's disgusting behaviour , everyone in the uk is as horrified as the next person unless they are a racist thug.

I think yabu

The 'racist' aspect of Brexit is interesting. There is only a tiny minority of British people (but I'm sure there are some and you may think this) who would advocate letting anyone who wants to come to the UK from anywhere in the world to do so.

I don't really see that it is much more 'racist' for someone to say that they want some restriction on EU migration.

So why aren't those who don't advocate 100% free world movement having to state the same? Who decides where it is acceptable and unacceptable to stop migration from?

How do you know the majority of racists voted leave? No one know who you voted for and there wasn't a 'are you racist box' on the ballot paper.

Where should I be looking, Greenish?
Coulddo, Why do I assume most racists voted leave? Have a look on the Facebook pages/websites of those organisations.
No, I don't expect them to 'take to the streets' but nor do I think I'm being 'rediculas' either. I think they should be making their views known on social media, writing to their MPs etc.
Crossroads - yes, that would be the right thing for him to do. Nick Griffin could do it too.

Basicbrown, you are being disingenuous here. I am not talking about people who want some restrictions. I'm talking about people who have been committing openly racist acts/spreading hate speech since last Friday.

So twofingers do you advocate complete free movement of people?

Report
twofingerstoGideon · 27/06/2016 07:24

What does this have to do with the subject of this thread, Basic?

But I do agree with free movememt within the EU, seeing as you ask.

No I am not being 'disingenuous' lol. It makes me laugh when people chuck that one about.

So you agree that some restriction is reasonable so what has the far right got to do with the average voter?

I think they should be making their views known on social media, writing to their MPs etc.

How do you know they haven't?

Report
Basicbrown · 27/06/2016 07:26

No, the question is worldwide free movemebt. Why is the EU different?

And remain supporters need to condemn everybody who has sex with dead animals due to their leader David Cameron.

Where should I be looking, Greenish?

Well you could start with some of the threads on here rather than the FB pages of racist organisations....if you really want to?

Ok well here is my view being known

I am a leave voter and I think racism is disgusting and totally unacceptable

Anyone caught shouting abuses at another human should be delt harshly with by the law it's totally unacceptable

Happy now.?

Are YOU writing to your MP?

What exactly do you want us to say to our MP's? 'Err you know I voted Leave, well, it's not cos I'm racist. Please tell 'em off'.

Seriously.

I voted Leave. Nothing to do with 'gettin' 'em all out'. If 'Remainers' like you want to keep pretending that Leavers are racist and Remainers are not then there's no hope for you. Open your eyes.

I am British and white and I was engaged to marry a Nigerian immagrant for 5 years , sadly it didn't work out but we are still very good friends.

I also voted leave and believe we should have restrictions on the number immagrants allowed year year into the uk from EU and non EU counties

So am I a racists..?? I'd love to know that.

Racists come in many shapes and sizes, from the thug who would punch someone to an old dear in a nursing home. Just because someone isn't shouting "go home" in someone's face it doesn't mean they aren't racist.

I'd say the vast majority of leave voters are racist. All I've had on my news feed is people who voted leave wallowing in self pity about how they voted leave because they felt it was "best for their kids and please don't judge me".

LineyReborn · 27/06/2016 07:37

I was talking to OH about this yesterday as his DD has seen some upsetting things on FB. We all agreed that if we see racism, we'll report it to the police.

I think Remain voter or Leave voter, reporting it is the key. It's against the law.

Most police forces are on social media and email and there's 101. It's not hard to report.

Friends on my FB page are renouncing hatred/violence, I've no idea how they voted. I wouldn't assume they all voted remain, I voted leave and have my reasons for doing so, doesn't mean that I'm suddenly going to go out on the streets and verbally or physically attack people does it Confused

There was something like this on another thread. I clicked on the link and noticed I was in the vicinity of one of the "reported incidents". My hearing and my eyes must have failed me because I saw and heard nothing.

Not saying some of the incidents aren't true but anyone can type whatever they want. It doesn't make it true.

I'd say the vast majority of leave voters are racist

I'd say stop lazy stereotyping 17million people.
