Brexit

AIBU to think many Remainers will echo Lily Allen

Lily voted to remain, but is now exited about brexit and admits she was brainwashed by project fear.

I feel many uneducated and easily swayed remainders like her will see actually change is good, as it was shit and this is a real change.

Why don't you want me to have a European passport ?

YABU.

There is nothing exciting about being shunted into a sub-par EEA deal, widespread job losses, economic instability and growing racism and xenophobia in the general public.

People who want excitement should go on an adventure holiday.

Doubt it.

Given the sheer volume of people regretting they voted leave I can't see why you think many remainers would change their view?

Also... Lily Allen is worth many millions. This doesn't effect her

Very rich attention seeker has apparently limited attention span and wants us all to know about it.

Also - what Pontipines said.

Ah.

You think Lilly Allen should be my... rolemodel?

Ok then.

sandra. That's really insulting.

I am very well educated, have a very good brain and wasn't scared thank you.

The issue, I believe, is quite the reverse. Many leave voters did so under "protest" and not because they genuinely believed the country would leave. They are the ones, who did not understand the implications of voting out.

You don't sound particularly well informed or educated yourself. To use Lily Allen as a reference point really says it all.

Brainwashed by Project Fear? What, you mean the stuff about the pound falling, companies leaving the UK for the EU, and racism reappearing on the streets? Oh yeah, totally brainwashed, all remainers will immediately recant 'cos it ain't happening.

So we are all to follow someone that can't pronounce a T. I voted remain. NOTHING will get me to regret that.

Report
YourPerception · 26/06/2016 04:23

It's been the same for both sides.

Report
Peppatina · 26/06/2016 04:31

Oh yes HUGE numbers of Remainers are now a little bit excited and wish they'd been a bit braver.

(Sssh op! Some remainers who lost need to be able to tell themselves that about half of the people on Thursday who voted Leave absolutely regret it and would vote remain in a instant now.

Despite the fact this is based on only a small number on BOTH sides saying they wished they'd voted different.

Can't have people who think differently to them outnumbering them don't you know!)

I'll set the idea of Lily Allen as a political opinion former to one side but what she actually said was:-

"Never thought I'd say this, possibly because project fear worked on me. I'm now quite excited about # Brexit and shift on political climate.

"I'm not saying I wouldn't be happy if we'd remained, not at all. But if in time it levels the playing field , tbc 1/2.

"And helps to narrow the gap between rich and poor, that can be no bad thing. The people have spoken, some for good reason. I stand by them."

Which to me sounds more like trying to find some ray of light in this mess.

Yes, it's easy to be optimistic and excited in a speculative kind of way when you have a buffer of several million pounds. Hmm

Report
Babymouse · 26/06/2016 05:32

It's unlikely that the gap between rich and poor will narrow due to the brexit- rich and poor will likely both be losing money for some time.

LondonKiwiMummy · 26/06/2016 05:59

hmm. i've been a very passionate remainer over the last few months, but now a minor celebrity has changed her mind, so will i!

this is just lily allen attention seeking again.

I can see Lilly Allen proclaiming her love for Farage next. Anything to keep her in the news.
Yes, a slightly unstable notorious attention seekers is a truly great example to follow.

She makes me feel quite old. I used to see her dad wandering around backstage at festivals a lot. He seemed nice.

Do I feel like I'll regret my remain vote based on her? No.

I imagine Lily Allen's support of Brexit will make many Leavers egret their decision. She's a complete nob. She freely admitted on Desert Island Discs that she changes her opinion to fit her audience. Rent a gob wannabe hipster.

Phew I feel so much better about the terrible consequences of leaving the EU now that I know Lily Allen is excited! I'll just stop worrying that my future has been decided by people who did no research into the effects of Brexit rather than the MPs who were democratically elected to make these decisions. (Note:- in the UK our elected parliament is our democracy- I'm so fed up of posts telling me that a non-binding referendum is now supposedly democracy in our country. Thank god for Parliamentary Sovereignty).

Off to look for my England bunting and plan a Brexit party. Thanks for setting my mind at ease OP.

This shit won't touch her. The majority of people in our country can't say the same Hmm

Report
PotatoBread · 26/06/2016 06:43

Nope, she's no role model of mine. I voted remain and the only time I have felt fear is the moment the result was announced onwards.

Report
DeathStare · 26/06/2016 06:44

Lily Allen is hardly worrying about her job and her mortgage is she?!

Report
TheCrumpettyTree · 26/06/2016 06:54

Oh well as long as Lily Allen says she's not worried I feel so much better. Thanks Lily! Hmm

You don't go around promising more money for the NHS and reduced immigration to encourage people to vote leave if you aren't going to deliver... Because the violent result will not be pretty for the UK. The Brexit campaign has almost guaranteed through its wild promises that there will not be a happy outcome when those people who voted leave through anger and despair (and there were a lot of them who voted with this mindset) realise that what they wanted to change is not actually going to happen. This will inevitably result in a bigger gap between rich and poor and a massive increase in the poor, because those in power in this country are even more relaxed about that gap than the EU ever was and totally fine with the rich being a tiny, elite group.

Lily Allen - the guh-hur-ul singer?

Oh yes, whenever I want insightful commentary on politics, finance or international politics she's the very first person I call. That's if Mr Tumble is busy.
