AIBU to be angry at surprised Brexit voters?

Victoria Derbyshire has been chatting to voters all morning, and more than one admitted voting to leave, but being shocked and worried about the resulting political turmoil. What did they think was going to happen!? I just can't understand their logic.

I wonder if some people voted out in anger or as a protest without thinking it through. Who knows, I would imagine the majority did think it through though, the same as remain voters.

I am now preparing to wind up my small business & stiff creditors. I will however get some small pleasure in stiffing HMRC. I work in property & this sector will be severely hit in the short term.

There will be many, many people doing the same & lots of unemployment.
Not good. Brexiteers will be moaning when further austerity hits, welfare budgets are reduced & jobs dry up.
We are where we are.

My dh voted out having done no research, knowing nothing about the eu.

He was confident we'd stay in anyway and is shocked.

It makes no sense. Someone on our local group was saying we won't be overrun by illegal immigrants now, not realising that EU immigrants are legal. There is so much ignorance surrounding the issue. The referendum should never have happened.

Total lack of responsibility shown by some, as if they were voting in Britain's got Talent or something. A lack of understanding of the importance of voting and the fact that it DOES actually make a difference. Many of these people will have never voted before because "what's the point".
Well now they'll learn.

They are going be even more surprised when they realise that a) they have just consolidated power in the hands of the establishment they hate and b) brexit can't/won't start tackling EU migration until 2020 at the earliest.

Honestly don't, I was so annoyed with him for not doing his research.

I live and work in an area with a lot of poverty and unemployment high levels of social housing. I know everyone's got their reasons for their vote but you'd be shocked how many people round here have voted out because "they'll send all the foreigners back", Most of them wouldn't know a Polish man from a Pakistani.

baby a lot of those people in your area are probably fed up with a lot of things, not just 'foreigners'. high unemployment and poverty can't exactly be a picnic and if local resources and services are more stretched it's understandable why they react so badly, but that doesn't mean you have to agree with them, but it doesn't make them racist, just pissed off.

Yanbu. I voted leave because that was the result I wanted. I have no time for people who say "whoops I didn't mean it". I was surprised by the outcome, but I didn't vote the way I did because I wanted to lose but be able to moan.

Not always. On this one, yes. Lets not pretend, the majority voted because of immigration. Which is hilarious when you consider the French won't have any obligation to deal with the hordes at Calais anymore, and you've jus moved the border to Kent.

The responsibility for this lies with Cameron's self serving promising a referendum to win votes, the lack of a fair electoral system leading to citizens being and feeling effectively disenfranchised, the apparent inability to discuss immigration and its effects, and the failure of the labour party to campaign meaningfully. You reap what you sow and it will be interesting not to say ironic if Cameron's legacy turns out to be the damaging of englands economy and the breakup of the union.

Don't live in UK and am not British, if I was I could see reasons for voting either way, and yes I'm educated, with degree etc etc etc.

I think that they should have discounted those concerns when it came to deciding on whether or not to be in the EU. Leaving is really not going reduce immigration or give the UK more control.

op is not complaining about those who voted exit and meant it, but those who voted without thinking about it, or voted exit but didn't really want to leave, or voted exit and are now really worried about the effects they are going to suffer.

Different people vote different ways because brexit will effect different parts of society in different ways.

Yes, I've spoken to two people who voted leave, one of my DDs last night who expressed her worry if the leave vote won and my exh this morning who agree with me that it's cause for huge concern and not good for the country.

Both voted leave, and now they're worried they've got their way.

Why the hell would you vote a particular way for something so important and then be surprised and concerned that you've won; definitely a case of 'be careful what you wish for'.

That's actually a bilateral agreement between the UK and France, nothing to do with the EU. Perhaps the French will now deal with the problem as they should have done a long time ago.

I voted leave, am educated, and meant it, as did dh, also highly educated. We live just outside Brussels as dh works here.
