Without googling - can you name your MEP? And are you in/out/don't know?

Just wondering (especially if there is any correlation between knowing and preferring to remain).

I don't know, and am still a don't know.

AnguaResurgam Mon 20-Jun-16 22:06:52

Sorry, that should of course be 'can you name any of your regional MEPs?' as it's not quite like a constituency MP.

BertrandRussell Mon 20-Jun-16 22:08:04

Yes. And in.

ApocalypseSlough Mon 20-Jun-16 22:08:37

I don't know my MEP, I'll look it up now. grin
I'm voting in.

Does that count as knowing?

MrsBlackthorn Mon 20-Jun-16 22:11:18

Yes. I'm signed up to get their newsletter monthly which tells me what they've been working on.

OrangesandLemonsNow Mon 20-Jun-16 22:11:49

Yes and out

AnguaResurgam Mon 20-Jun-16 22:12:23

Does that count as knowing? Yes, I think it does.

CoolforKittyCats Mon 20-Jun-16 22:12:32

DinosaursRoar Mon 20-Jun-16 22:12:41

I can remember his surname, but not first. And am back to being a 'don't know'.

Tartyflette Mon 20-Jun-16 22:14:00

Yep, I 've even met him. (Well, one of them, I think there are three for this region.)
In. Probably.

Grumpysfirstwife Mon 20-Jun-16 22:16:30

No, haven't got a clue but I'm off to find out and voting out.

I follow her on FB so have a good idea what she does .

Sunseed Mon 20-Jun-16 22:24:05

Two out of eight, and still wavering.

BertrandRussell Mon 20-Jun-16 22:25:59

"Yes and in (but not voting)."

You won't be bothered if it turns out to be "out" then?

Brokenbiscuit Mon 20-Jun-16 22:37:13

None of us have only one MEP. The European Parliament constituencies are quite large and there are several MEPs for each area.

The leave campaign keeps trying to make a thing out of the fact that so few of us know our MEPs, and this is being used to highlight how undemocratic the EU supposedly is. However, I think the real reason we don't know them is because we each have several. This is thanks to the system of proportional representation rather than any fundamental failure of democracy. PR is arguably far more democratic and representative than our first past the post system.

I could name a couple of my MEPs but not all. I do know which parties they all represent.

Perhaps alleg doesn't have the opportunity to vote?

Grumpysfirstwife Mon 20-Jun-16 22:57:11

I've googled and can honestly say I've never heard of any of them. Surely I should know their names but no, not a jot, I don't know their names or faces. confused

ilovesooty Tue 21-Jun-16 00:37:30

Yes. I've communicated at some point with all of them.

PinkBuffalo Tue 21-Jun-16 18:55:48

Nigel is one of our meps, but I don't know any of the others. Not a fan of him, but I suppose at least people know who he is unlike the others confused

PinkBuffalo Tue 21-Jun-16 18:57:08

Oh and I am out, but absolutely nothing to do with farage. I am not a fan of him

Sorry - it was a bit ambiguous. I can't vote as I have been out of the UK for more than 15 years. sad
