Brexit

Can anyone explain why the government and others are so desperate for us to stay?

I'm the first to admit that my knowledge of politics and economics is not great but it seems to me there must be more to it than we are being told. If they are getting so scared of a Leave vote that they have to threaten us with Emergency budgets etc what are they really worrying about? I just can't believe they have only the interests of the country at heart. What do they get out of it if we vote Remain?

Cameron gets to not stay in the history books as the PM who gambled his country's future in order to win a GE, and lost the gamble.

The government have to try to manage the leaving and it will be a total shit storm. Nobody in their right mind would want to be in charge during that!!

'Can anyone explain why the government and others are so desperate for us to stay?'

They are all controlled, they are puppets, servants and their bosses have tld them to pull their finger out and make sure we stay

Compliant people are doing as told by the party leader, their boss etc and staying.

Free thinkers and rebels are voting out.

Wise people are staying they are undecided even though they know which way they are voting.Wink

The government is split because the conservatives would prefer to not have any controls (thenot they can do what they like to the workers).

Labour, plaid Cymru and the Scottish national party are allooking in favour of remaining.

As are all the major unions (unison has sent out a letter to all its member suggesting that they vote to remain in today).

' If they are getting so scared of a Leave vote that they have to threaten us with Emergency budgets etc what are they really worrying about?'

They are worried that we will not listen to their advice and vote to leave.

'I just can't believe they have only the interests of the country at heart.'

You're right, of course they don't.

'What do they get out of it if we vote Remain?'

They avoid a bollocking

As for economics we are fucked in the EU and fucked outside.

What concerns me is the level of ignorance on this issue.

Did you honestly think the conservatives supported the remain campaign? They are the only major party that doesn't.

' I just can't believe they have only the interests of the country at heart.'

What perosn on earth would hand over sovereignty and allow laws to be made outside their country and would hand over control of their borders to open door immigration to potentially millions of people if they had the interests of the country of heart. What person would go into politics and seek to "lead" their country only to find out that they are powerless over many aspects of lawmaking if they had the interests of their country at heart?

An out vote continues the uncertainty that the economy has endured for the last 6 months.

The stock market has fallen significantly, billions have been moved out of the UK.

That's everyone's pensions.

This is a huge issue.

They care about ensuring the economy is working and we can pay back our deficit.

That is unlikely with a leave vote. We may be an island, but we aren't alone. We rely heavily on US and eastern investment. All major world leaders have suggested that leaving the EU would reduce their countries investment.

The government knows that Brexit will, at least temporarily, screw the economy. It may be a more permanent problem or it maybe just long enough to lose them the election. The Conservative party is divided because, ideologically, many of them would like to be out of the EU to have greater freedom from legislation. Either their Leave supporter think the economic gamble is worth it or they think the economic problems won't affect them and the sections of society they care about.

Labour would probably be beneficiaries of a Leave vote, as the economy may hand them the next election.

The market changes are a huge money making scheme. The rich must be loving this uncertainty. It's not just UK markets and currency bouncing around. Things will settle down in a few weeks.

Better Brussels and protect workers rights than the conservatives picking apart our education, NHS and police force.

You can bet trident would be back on the agenda in a big way.

If we want to continue free trade then EU migration would be part of that, each country has insisted on that.

Soloman that is why Labour should have continued to keep a low profile. I thought the push this week was a foolish move.

Your, the uncertainty continues until agreements are made.

The leave campaign, (who can't know, because is a two way discussion with every country in the RU), are saying that it will take at least 3 years.

I just have this awful feeling that we'll leave and people will be very sorry when they realise what they'very done.

I think we will stay then regret it once the EU stops holding back bad news.

Maki anyone with a pension is a shareholder, that's how the pensions increase over time.

If people's pensions are significantly reduced the state will have to either make up the shortfall or deal with millions of OAPs living below the breadline. (Ironically it may well be the OAPs that takes us out of the EU).

YourPerception, if the public votes Leave and the economy nose dives then the public will blame the government not themselves, despite most of the government voting Remain. People won't admit they were wrong.

Tony Blair doesn't work for the EU. Pubic service of any kind doesn't pay enough for his tastes.

Sorry for my ignorance in wording the thread title wrongly, in trying to avoid saying Bremain or Brexit which annoy the hell out of me I clumsily tarred all Conservatives with the same brush. Clearly I meant Cameron, Osborne etc specifically.

Thanks to those who've answered informatively rather than picking apart my wording.

Posted on another forum earlier - i've just copied and pasted (but the info checks out).

A good friend of mine came up with a great idea. If you don't have the time/inclination to find out all the facts about the EU referendum (I don't blame you) and are possibly unsure which way to vote, perhaps knowing how other notable people are thinking could help out.

Here are a few that strongly believe the UK should remain a member of the EU:

• Governor of the Bank of England
• International Monetary Fund
• Institute for Fiscal Studies
• Confederation of British Industry
• Leaders/heads of state of every single other member of the EU
• President of the United States of America
• Eight former US Treasury Secretaries
• President of China
• Prime Minister of India
• Prime Minister of Canada
• Prime Minister of Australia
• Prime Minister of Japan
• Prime Minister of New Zealand
• The chief executives of most of the top 100 companies in the UK including Marks and Spencer, BT, Asda, Vodafone, Virgin, IBM, BMW etc.
• Kofi Annan, the former Secretary General of the United Nations
• All living former Prime Ministers of the UK (from both parties)
• Virtually all reputable and recognised economists
• The Prime Minister of the UK
• The leader of the Labour Party
• The Leader of the Liberal Democrats
• The Leader of the Green Party
• The Leader of the Scottish National Party
• The leader of Plaid Cymru
• Leader of Sinn Fein
• Martin Lewis, that money saving dude off the telly
• The Secretary General of the TUC
• Unison
• National Union of Students
• National Union of Farmers
• Stephen Hawking
• Chief Executive of the NHS
• 300 of the most prominent international historians
• Director of Europol
• David Anderson QC, Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation
• Former Directors of GCHQ
• Secretary General of Nato
• Church of England
• Church in Scotland
• Church in Wales
• Friends of the Earth
• Greenpeace
• Director General of the World Trade Organisation
• WWF
• World Bank
• OECD

Here are pretty much the only notable people who think we should leave the EU:

• Boris Johnson, who probably doesn’t really care either way, but knows he’ll become Prime Minister if the country votes to leave
• A former Secretary of State for Work and Pensions who carried out a brutal regime of cuts to benefits and essential support for the poorest in society as well as the disabled and sick
• The guy who was Education Secretary and every single teacher in the country hated with a furious passion for the damage he was doing to the education system
• Leader of UKIP
• BNP
• Britain First
• Donald Trump
• Keith Chegwin
• David Icke

So, as I said, if you can’t be bothered to look into the real facts and implications of all this in/out stuff, just pick the list that you most trust and vote that way. It really couldn’t be more simple.

And if you are unsure about leaving, don't.

Sorry, I wasn't picking apart your words, i've come across loads of people who think this is a conservative campaign to remain, and around here that puts people off (traditional labour area).

I was just trying to clarify.
