For starters:

Verdun: France and Germany mark centenary with EU unity call

"France and Germany have marked the 100th anniversary of the World War One battle of Verdun in north-eastern France with a call for European unity."

"France's Francois Hollande and Germany's Angela Merkel used Verdun as a symbol of both reconciliation between their nations and of EU integration."

"Mr Hollande warned against "forces of division" in Europe. Mrs Merkel said nationalism "would throw us backwards"."

"She went on to say that the EU proved its "ability to compromise to unite" and to condemn "pure nationalist state thinking and behaviour [that] would throw us backwards.""

"President Hollande said: "The forces of division, of closure and withdrawal are at work again. They cultivate fear and instil hatred.""

(The above are quotes from the article, not the whole thing).

I saw this report too - very disingenuous to draw a parallel between WW1 and the possibility of EU disintegration. To make the thinly veiled suggestion that if anyone were to leave the EU (with a simultaneous hard stare directed across the Channel), Europe would once again be plunged into instant war between its members and non-members.

The most likely war scenario will be Russia - Ukraine, following the extensive courting of Ukraine by the EU. That will be the justification for the EU army.

I am sure almost every other EU leader will oppose Brexit for the very simple reason they need UK money & UK open borders. Without the gigantic UK contribution in fees the EU is in financial trouble & open borders mean other countries can export people and get rid of burdens who then become a burden on us
