At a civil ceremony are the vows the same as for a marriage and do you get you may kiss the bride/groom at the end?

There is definitely a kissing moment. It's probably optional though.

words that you have to say

They are similar (as there are certain things you have to say legally - but that tends to be the stuff they ask/prompt you) but with no mention of god. We were allowed to choose from several or write our own. They sent us a pack when we booked it with everything in.

Yes they did give us a 'kissing moment' but don't know if that's down to the superintendant registrar. They also read a fucking awful poem (at least it made me laugh) that we hadn't requested (we didn't want any readings).

The ceremony was extremely short - 15 mins max. But we'd gone for the shortest version of everything and no readings, no big bride's entrance etc.

just reread and am confused - civil partnership or civil marriage ceremony. I was talking about a civil marriage ceremony.

We had a civil ceremony and it was fabulous. We weren't invited to kiss at the end, but we did anyway - it sort of just happens naturally, and everyone expects it, and then everyone claps and gets tearful and it'll be the best day of your lives. Enjoy and treasure every moment!

we were given 3 options of wording ranging from the strict legal words to some more flowery versions. discussed it at length with the registrar and told her on no account did we want her to start rhapsodizing about 'what marriage means', to which she agreed... then on the day she did exactly what we'd asked her not to, and went for the most flowery version even as i stood there saying 'these are not the vows we asked you to make for us', with my dad (who hates weddings and was only there under sufferance) saying "fucking self important obnoxious cow etc etc" which all our guests found highly amusing. she didn't suggest a 'kiss the bride' moment though i think we did anyway. and she mispronounced both my son and bridesmaids (very simple) names repeatedly despite having been told how to say them over and over again. she was a proper charmer!
