Kash for Klothes - has anyone heard of/used this rag-man-type company before? Wondering if I can do so with a clear conscience?

I've recently done a clothing sale to raise money for a local charity and although we did really well on the day we still have a fair bit left over. I'm considering selling it to this company to raise further cash but in the wake of organisations like Samaritans Purse (ie posing as one thing when really they have other motives) I just wanted to check that they are sound.

Any thoughts or comments much appreciated.

I would be dubious.
They don't say which of the options they mention they use for the disposal/reuse of old clothes- selling in them in developing countries is not a good thing, as it undermines local industry. If they were going to use them in the UK I would be much happier. Personally, if the quality is decent I'd just give them to a charity shop, but I see you are trying to raise money yourself. Maybe store it for a few weeks and have another sale?

Hmmm, that was my worry

We have nowhere to store really, taking to another charity shop was our plan b, but this just popped up as an option of making some more money

I wonder if I email them if they'll tell me what they'll do with the clothes...

We are doing a collection of second hand clothes for a company called Bags2School at the moment as a PTFA fundraiser. I am very dubious about the ethics of it - selling cheap second hand clothes in the developing world is disastrous for local industries. And, more selfishly, I suspect it's going to be quite a lot of work for not much money. But I was overrules - so currently have a van full of bulging bags outside my door!

I think oxfam were thinking of running their own alternative to that scheme.

I thought that a lot of the charity shops sold most of the donated clothing to companies like that anyway, to be sold in developing countries (could be wrong, though!). As I understood, it, only a very small proportion of what is donated is actually sold in shops within the UK.

I wouldn't trust them simply by judging by the name! 'Kash4Klothes'
