Any ideas about what I can do with my cot mattress?

I've given away a cot on freecycle, but as most places recommend using a new mattress for a new baby, I'm stuck with the old mattress. I used it for two babies and it always had a mattress protector on it so it seems such a shame to send it to landfill.

Anyone have any genius solution to this?

Let your kids use it to slide down the stairs?

Will watch this thread with interest as I'm in the same boat.

hmmm maybe you could make some kind of big seat for the kids room, and use it as a cushion on top?

OR, put it on freecycle, with the disclaimer saying that it isn't recommended.
then if people want to risk it they can

I've already put it up on freecycle and had no takers.

Would dearly love to re-use it as something for the kids, but we're quite pushed for space and I have nowhere to store it.

I feel very sad at the thought of throwing it away.

hmmm, there must be something.... will ponder on it

actually, I don't suppose women's shelters or something like that would take it? maybe not as it isn't recommended, but might be worth an ask round?

i know if / when i have my own chid i would LOVE someone else cot mattress...

obv not for a new born but for when they are ill and get the normal one covered in sick etc so they can use it while their own one is cleaned.

have always had a spare cot matteress a work and it has always been used during periods of illness

Is it completely sealed with the vinyl/platic type coating, because if it us then they are okay to reuse. It's the kind where the foam/filling isn't sealed in that you shouldn't reuse.

I gave mine to my mum and her dog sleeps on it.

I wonder if your local dog shelter (or equivalent) might make use of it. Or when you put the ad on freecycle suggest this as a possible use?
