I had a discussion with someone at work about this (yes I know I live a sad life) and it got me thinking about what is 'normal' so I thought I'd do a survey.

Roughly how many loads of washing a week do you do and how many people live in your house?

I do 2 or 3 and there's 3 of us (2 adults, 1 18month old).

belgo Thu 20-Sep-07 15:59:11

2 adults 2 small children

4 washes a week.

Nbg Thu 20-Sep-07 16:00:08

I now do one load every other day.

There are 2 adults and 2 children 4 and 1.

Scoobi6 Thu 20-Sep-07 16:00:28

2 adults, 1 baby in reusables and weaning (aarg!)

5-7 washes a week, 1-2 of which are nappies

Ecmo Thu 20-Sep-07 16:00:49

I do on average 1 load a day, more if I change beds. If I dont do 1 a day and I fall behind great washing mayhem occurs! Weekends I may have to do 2 a day to keep up with pe kits and school uniform.
I dont iron just shake hard and fold!

oh there are 6 of us

Oh my goodness, there are two adults and three children 5,3 and 1 and I wash at least once a day mostly twice and I use the dryer - oh the shame, I want to be good I really do!

ScoobyDooooo Thu 20-Sep-07 16:05:22

2 Adults 2 children & i do about 7 wahses a week.

Jojay Thu 20-Sep-07 16:06:09

3 of us - me, Dh and ds, 9 mths.

About 5 loads a week

MegaLegs Thu 20-Sep-07 16:08:38

Like Ecmo if I miss a day all hell breaks loose and the utility room disappears under piles of dirty washing.

I have four boys, one in reusable nappies alot of the time and a dirty tree surgeon for a DH.

I do, on average, two loads a day, but I do line dry or use my airers and keep my tumble dryer use to a minimum.

MegaLegs Thu 20-Sep-07 16:09:02

So 14-15 loads a week blush

francagoestohollywood Thu 20-Sep-07 16:09:36

2 adults 2 children

4 to 5 wahing a week

francagoestohollywood Thu 20-Sep-07 16:10:32

we don't have a dryer

Nbg Thu 20-Sep-07 16:10:36

I have to say though that my tumble dryer has come back into full usage again in the last week.

bozza Thu 20-Sep-07 16:11:24

2 adults 2 children 8 washes per week

tissy Thu 20-Sep-07 16:13:37

2 adults one 5 yr old

usually about five or six loads

bedclothes
whites
2 dark coloured
red/ pink (we have a lot of those-enough for a load)
towels etc

HOWEVER washing machine does have a short wash programme, which we use most of the time, and limits amount of water used if load is small

don't tumble unless things are needed in a hurry, hang things on racks in the spare room

TheBlonde Thu 20-Sep-07 16:18:42

2 adults 2 small kids
at least 7 loads

ivykaty44 Thu 20-Sep-07 16:24:09

1 adult 1 smallish child and 1 TEENAGER

3 loads for the 1 adult and small child
4 loads for the 1 teenager grin

this is over one week

maisemor Thu 20-Sep-07 16:24:45

2 adults and 2 children.
Between 5 and 7 loads, depends on whether my son has wet the bed or not (we can go weeks without him doing it then suddenly he does it once or three times in a row).

We have no drier.

tigger32 Thu 20-Sep-07 16:26:37

There are 4 of us: 2 adults, a 4 year old and a 1 year old.
1 do at least 1 wash a day, (probably 10 a week), I line dry or clothes horse except for towels which always go in tumle dryer.

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House Thu 20-Sep-07 16:39:13

2 adults 2 small children (one 3 yo and one 10mo in washable nappies)

a load every other day (so 3-4 a week) including the nappies

have been norty and using the tumble except when found out what dire straights we're in now so airer drying everything, soemtimes out the front of our flats most of the time in the hallway/our bedroom!

expatinscotland Thu 20-Sep-07 16:39:58

1 a day. 2 at the weekends when I wash bed linens.

2 small children and 2 adults.

DebitheScot Thu 20-Sep-07 16:42:09

Wow so so far I'm below average. I don't have a drier either. I don't know how some of you have time to do so much (but then I can imagine the chaos if you didn't!)

belgo Thu 20-Sep-07 16:44:39

debs - it's the washing machine that does the work though isn't it. I tend to spot wash clothes, unless of course thay are really dirty.

harrisey Thu 20-Sep-07 17:38:47

5 washes a week or so.

2 adults, 3 children (3, 5, 7) with 3 year old still wetting the bed.

A lot less than when we were washing nappies, and hope it will decline more, but at thee moment ds needs his school uniform washing after one wear!

harrisey Thu 20-Sep-07 17:39:46

We dont have a tumbler, so the house is draped in wet washing when its wet (like today). I love line drying, the clothes smell fab!
