What green/greenish car can I buy for a song?

Our trusted ancient hybrid has had its catalytic converter nicked and the cost of replacing it is higher than its value. So - what to do? I had been hoping to be able to use it for another few years - by which time fully electric cars would be affordable. Looking for suggestions of CHEAP family sized second hand cars with decent eco credentials. Anyone got any ideas?? TIA
