Wow! That sounds interesting. How old does a tree have to be to be ancient?

I'm not sure, but it tells you that you need to measure the girth and then they can work it out.

It conjures up some lovely images and the trees on the web site are beautiful.

there is an absolutely fabulous cedar of lebanon near me.

This is very interesting i've also got a very old Yew and quite a few others such as a couple of tulip trees. I know some of them are up to 300 years old.

I will be out measuring them with dd tomorrow

Mt brother has a rather fine Ginko. Now that is a sentence you don't find yourslef typing very often!

well, bro is quite old!

Ginkos are not that common in the UK though, so he is very prod of it!

Oh we have a gingko near us - I have just discovered what it is this month

ds kept asking "what IS that funny tree called?" until my friend looked it up for us

when he told me he had a ginko he said, 'Motile sperm in a dieocious tree, that is rare that it!'

And I thought, I bet we are about the only brother and sister round these parts who have conversations like this

He's great , my bro. Hes a biology teacher as well, but better than me at all the plant stuff!

We used to have a weeping willow, when dd was a baby we put her under it in her pram, there was a stream in my garden many moons ago. The tree died and had to be cut down

I love the sound of the weeping willow, Cammelia, it would be lovely to sleep under one.

Ancient seems to be defined as a fat tree that makes you go, "Wow", TooT.

Cammelia we had a weeping willow in our front garden when I was a girl. I used to spend hours hiding under it reading books and drawing. My parents cut it down because "it blocked out light"

Well, will definitely look out for fat wow trees

Nice to get dcs to hold hands round a big tree and see if we can get right round. Saw hooge redwood last year.

Where I live is now a conservation area so we're not allowed even to cut down branches without permission unless the tree is dead
