With all this rain, I have a footwear problem.

I need something waterproof but find anything that comes over my ankles too restrictive.
Ideally, I would like something fairly traded (or non-exploitative), environmentally sound, and if possible, leather-free. Or recycled...
Oh, and I'm on a budget.

how about recycled, biodegradable carrier bags?

Cappuccino Mon 02-Jul-07 13:38:10

second hand wellies with the legs cut off

TooTicky Mon 02-Jul-07 13:38:35

I was thinking of something a little more hardwearing...

Cappuccino Mon 02-Jul-07 13:39:09

I was joking

but don't wellies last?

MamaG Mon 02-Jul-07 13:39:35

weave your own from ethically cut reeds from the riverbank

TooTicky Mon 02-Jul-07 13:57:33

<TT ponders the reeds by the canal>

can't believe that Crocs haven't been mentioned yet

aah, at last! Thanks Enid. A footwear thread on MN isn't complete without a mention of crocs

chopster Mon 02-Jul-07 17:31:49

crocs aren't too nice in the rain though. Feet get all muddy.

TooTicky Mon 02-Jul-07 22:38:26

Okay, any non-rubbery sensible suggestions?

pollywollydoodle Mon 02-Jul-07 22:53:00

don't know what they are called but what about those cut off slip on welly things you get in garden centres.....

TooTicky Mon 02-Jul-07 22:58:13

Mmm...I don't know. I do a lot of walking and suspect they wouldn't be comfy enough.

Wisp Mon 02-Jul-07 23:02:12

Have you tried ethicalwares or vegetarian shoes?

Wisp Mon 02-Jul-07 23:03:02

Oh and lots of waterproof shoes in the sale there too!

TooTicky Mon 02-Jul-07 23:22:20

Ethicalwares I haven't tried - the others I have. Thanks

TooTicky Mon 02-Jul-07 23:23:03

Actually, haven't tried veganstore - was thinking of vegan shoes. Right, off I go...

ticky did you find anything?

i have a similar dilema

is there a particular reason why waterproof stuff is all so BORING? What about a nice green shoe?

TooTicky Sun 08-Jul-07 23:28:11

No, not yet. But we have had two days of sunshine

I dunno. Even if money wasn't an issue, I have a lot of criteria when buying anything, and shoes have to be comfortable as well!
