Buy milk from a local dairy or the local milkman, plenty of farmers sell meat direct from the farm gate, lamb, beef and pork usually being quite common depending on where you are. Unfortunately it can be hard to tell exactly where in Britain supermarket meat comes from, if you buy it direct (or from a small butcher) they should be able to tell you exactly where it came from.
Heavens, there shouldn't be air miles involved in oat milk! Ship miles potentially, but I'm sure there are British brands?
Re meat, organic from the butcher or direct from the farm is best. Next best is via Abel & Cole or Riverford or similar. Supermarkets are pretty terrible, but if you must, stick to organic. Yup, it's expensive. It should be. Cheap dead animal is never going to be ethical, really.
I'm so confused. We've cut our plastic use and have meat free days we've cut our daily but I can't understand meat labelling. How do I know that the meat I buy is genuinely high welfare and where can I get it from? Also when we cut our dairy use we sub with things like oat milk but is that as bad for the environment because if the air miles involved in production?
We're really trying but I don't know what I should be doing! Any advice greatly appreciated.
