Eco products (laundry powder) that actually work

Looking for product recommendations please. Plastic free packaging is a bonus but mainly I want it to work! These products always cost more than the bog standard supermarket brands and somehow when they don't perform as well I end up feeling short changed and revert back to the old brands.

This is probably one of those questions for which there are a million different answers but I really wish that someone would do a comparison test with Eco laundry/household products and score them just based on their cleaning ability. All the review sites I can find are about the Eco credentials rather than how well they actually perform the task intended. Which? do them for 100s of "normal" products but usually only include Ecover or Method as the greener option.

I currently use Tesco non-bio big box powder, (when I need to will pre-treat stains with the old fashioned vanish soap bars.)
I tried Bio D about a year ago and remember that I didn't really like it. Perhaps because it doesn't have any optical brighteners the whites looked much duller than I'm used to, maybe I will need to get used to this (or have different powders for whites and colours as a compromise). I don't like laundry to be strongly scented so the lack of perfume in these products is a bonus really. I am happy to buy online so it doesn't need to be a supermarket available brand. I do want clean clothes.

So people who have been Eco friendlier than me for longer than me, what can you recommend. Please. Smile

My fav is the Method super concentrated - and I just use a bit of stain remover soap as necessary too. I always add a spoon of soda crystals to every wash as I live in hard water area.

biggreensmile.com has a great selection of eco laundry productsI'm keen to try the Faith in Nature laundry wash.

and I don't find the Method works out to be any more expensive at all. I stock up on refills when they are on offer and each refill pack lasts me at least 3-4 months.
