Packaging vs distance

I was in our local grocer today and was really torn about buying fruit that is has fewer transport miles, but comes in plastic packaging, while the unbagged fruit was from further away. I eventually bought the middle distance unwrapped, but it was significantly more expensive, 20% (luckily I can afford it). Just wondering how others weigh up the plastic vs miles dilemma.

I can't figure out what to do, either. End up buying whichever one looks yummier. then at least no food waste!
