Drying clothes out

Do people not dry clothes outside these days? in the 6 nearby houses i just seen 1 hanging clothes out in the summer. I never seen any other neighbor hanging out clothes even in the summer!
Some people must not mind paying extra energy bills to dry clothes!

Well they're all daft! I LOVE hanging clothes out, it's like 10 minutes of tradition, peace and birdsong in the summer.

Plus it's easier than finding space indoors, or machine drying. Better for the clothes and the environment.

Always, we have no tumble dryer and haven't had for about 12 years.

But it’s always raining here in the UK.
I dry inside - next to a radiator.

omBreROSE but that increases internal humidity and risk of dampness. It does rain here often but we do have dry days too!

I just find it sad/odd the houses nearby to me never seem to hang anything out! I personally find tumble driers ruin the quality of my clothes from regular use when i was at university.

I peg out when I can and use a dehumidifier inside when I can't - cheaper to run than a tumble drier, stops condensation issues and doesn't ruin clothes. I've had it a few months and I'm totally converted!

I dry outside when i can, as we don't have a tumble dryer. But with weather being what it is, and me not always home to take it in at a moment's notice, I often have it on the clothes horse.

I hang mine outside when its warm as often as I possibly can. I love it. We have a dryer but its old and crap so tend to throw things on radiator airers in winter.

I totally forgot to mention why l’m able to dry quickly and successfully inside.Blush
We have a spin dryer. We use that after the washing machine and then spun it till it is almost dry.
It has a spin on 2,400. Much more than your average washing machine.
We bought it last year, incase our washing machine ever broke down again- we’d still be able to get the family washing done. :)

I think a) you need to think of it, keep an eye on weather etc and b) it's a lot easier to take advantage of short periods to dry clothes out a bit if you're actually at home. So if you're out of the house 10-12 hours a day commuting/then running around with kids' activities, that doesn't fit well with "well I can get them out for 3 hrs then finish off inside".

On weekends when at home, it's possible to get quite a lot of water out of clothes even on a bit of a changeable day with sunny spells if you have time to watch the weather and get them in when it starts raining. But few people have that opportunity during the week.

I do not get this

I know people who don't do it. They say they don't like the smell or they can't be bothered. They all use tumble dryers. Madness.

freshturkey It makes sense if you know there'll be a good long dry stretch afterwards when you're not around to put the washing out. Do this sometimes if there are showers but it'll clear while I'm at work. If the rain was dirty tho I might not.

We have a LOT of trees around here. I can only dry outside if it's warm enough or windy enough for the clothes to dry before they get covered in sap. I do hang them out in summer but at this time of year there's no point.

Only during the winter!
Too many allergy suffers in mr family to risk pollen in spring and summer.
I hang everything to dry indoors

I try to hang outdoors but over the winter it's impossible to get anything dry due to the damp and cold. It's windy here today but it's still damp so nothing will dry

I hang clothes out as much as possible but not when it is freezing cold and raining like today

I'm disabled so really struggle to hang clothes out but also have severe chest problems. For me I use a vented dryer, drying on rads/airer makes it too humid and requires effort. Dryer is next to washer so is easy. However, my combined lec/gas bill is tiny despite doing a load every day.
