I'd have
Wood fired central heating
Grey water recycling
Rain water harvesting
An electric people carrier
PV Solar panels
Passive solar panels for hot water

I'm sure I could think of some more I'd like

How about you?

A house built by The Centre for Alternative Technology

I'd have sheep's wool insulation on every surface
Triple glazing
Solar-powered underfloor heating (is that even possible? lol)
My own hot spring system for all hot water needs (I actually know someone who has this, not in the uk obv, but have yet to build the house next to it)
Oh god I'd have the lot

Grape press
Solar operated helicopter

Nice

I'd like more (& better insulation) & argon filled triple glazed windows (like they fit in Sweden as standard)

Where is hot spring Pruni?
We have hot springs in UK.
Think of Bath!
I would bloody love to take the waters.

Katymac · 23/05/2006 21:51

Pruni - you'd be better with a ground pump thingie for your underfloor heating (very efficient - might be worth costing it)

Solar Pannels, Wind Turbine, Reed/willow beds, water harvesting/re cycling too! I'd probably re design the house to incorporate a decent central chimney/fire that would heat the rest of the place too....It'd be lovely ......

notasheep - would your house have some of those non-water toilets as well?

Report
Katymac · 23/05/2006 21:52

i'd have a rammed earth, passively solar heated burrow house with (obviously) a turf roof, on my biodynamic smallholding.

Report
lunavix · 23/05/2006 21:55

gosh it'd be lovely wouldn't it. I'd have the works too, plus enough money to comfortably eat entirely organic food (while having my own huge organic veggie patch a la It's not easy being green) and all ethical clothing for the whole family... I can dream!

whowoulddoit · 23/05/2006 21:56

ahh, this is easy..

solar panels
turf roof
wooden a frame stilt house built by ben law
reclaimed inetrior
straw bale walls...
i have to stop soon, this is starting to make me feel very sad about not having any money!

i would settle for one of those folding whellbarrows and a water butt...
or ben law...

With a rainwater irrigation system powered by a solar cell so that the plants get watered automatically in the hot weather

Vancouver Island, md.
They have a system of hot springs that gets cooler as it nears the ocean.
Sounds effin amazing.
Is Bath our one and only hot spring?

lunavix · 23/05/2006 21:57

I'd be happy with a water butt, eglu (I'm not entirely sure about the eco-friendliness of the plastic housing, but I'd like my own pair of organic chickens) and like I said to comfortably afford solely organic food.

would it be green to buy a whole island for myself?

Well, a recycling cupboard would do for me if I could also have your husband instead of my own environmentally negligent one.
