Boycott Chinese products until wildlife markets cease

I’m emailing companies that don’t state country of manufacture for their goods asking them to do so. I’m avoiding buying Chinese products until they ban the barbaric, cruel wildlife animal markets. Then maybe they’ll stop spreading animal viruses into humans causing such damage worldwide.

John Lewis only state countries for some products, Gap - none, Boden - none stated.

Boden have since responded and say they list all their factories (majority in China) on website but don’t by product. I’ve asked they consider this.

I've been boycotting Chinese products for a while. It's not easy and sometimes you just have to do without. The sheer amount of what we buy that is imported from China is shocking.

What device did you use to post this, OP? When you last paid for something, what device was used in the store? Where were the individual components of your furniture and home appliances sourced from? Where did the paper for your last book come from?

I'm not saying the markets shouldn't be stopped (they clearly should), I just don't think it's actually possible to live life today and boycott Chinese products.

I was in the sunday market at Kashgar Xingang province a few years ago and saw the skins of 3 snow leopards hanging up for sale.
They had been shot by poachers.
I'm afraid that the worlds wildlife is under very real threat from endemic Chinese culture, and they really don't care.
They only bother to look after the giant panda as it is a good money spinner for them.
Ever been in Hong Kong, every street rammed with shops selling Chinese traditional medicine, pickled animal parts from all over the world basically.
It is a huge problem, and I can only see it getting worse as Chinese influence grows.

She's boycotting from now. It's irrelevant that things she already owns may come from China.

It may be hard to completely boycott but if enough of us consciously try it will make a difference.

We have been doing this for a while, with clothes pay a bit more and buy less. Do you really need a new phone?

I have this problem with make up and beauty products. I always try to find products not tested on animals. Lots of brands state they do not test on animals but if they sell the product in China then it's moot because China insist on animal testing and the company know and agree to it.

I agree changes need to be made but that will only happen when people are willing to pay more and care where things come from. From food to fashion people only see the price.

I already started boycotting most chinese made things due to how bad it is for the environment but this is definitely another factor, the cruel human rights and animal abuses and now yet another deadly virus has come out of this yet again. Saying it helps no one is a misomner as well because if the world boycotted china eventually the people and military would be able to rise up and stage coups against the cruel regime they live under surely.

Genuine question, as I struggle to answer it myself, but do you honestly think it will make a difference? I've avoided Nestlé products for a long time now, as have other I know, and it appears to not have made any difference...

You are extremely naive. Many products which say they are made in other countries have component parts which are made in China. Even if all bits are not made in China, they most like have a component made in a factory owned by a Chinese company.

I will be avoiding Chinese products to the fullest extent possible, because of their atrocious record on animal rights which led to this crisis, and still they never learn.

Only this morning it is being reported that the Chinese have authorised the use of a vaccine containing bear bile for treating coronavirus.

Like @pollysproggle I have also stopped buying beauty products that are also being sold in China, even if the company itself don't sell in China their parent company could do. For example Aveda who are owned by Estée Lauder.
I was so disappointed in NARS when they decided to start selling in China a few years ago.

Yes, yes we get your point, all of you. But it doesn't mean we can't each make a small difference that will collectively make a meaningful and large one. It will be easier said than done to boycott many things made in China but that doesn't mean it's not worth doing at all. For example if a particular clothing company has everything manufactured there then it's worth boycotting them and letting them know why. If enough people did it they'd soon move their manufacturing operations elsewhere.

If enough people made an effort and were prepared to look harder and pay a bit more for other alternatives wherever possible we CAN have an impact.

It's certainly a lot more bloody useful as a strategy than all these petitions that keep popping up on facebook. Like the Chinese government give a shiny shite about European people signing petitions.

I have tried for many years to boycott Chise products too, due to vile human rights in China and the huge tankers that bring all the stuff over to us. pollute the oceans very badly..
