Opened my christmas present from OH in error

A package arrived by post addressed to me which I have just opened. It is my OH's (very generous) christmas present to me, but because of the nature of what it is the seller has used my name as the addressee and I can sort of understand how it has happened. My problem is that it is a complete surprise and I know OH would be gutted if he though I knew what it was ahead of christmas day. sad

I can't put the genie back in the bottle. What on earth should I do?

Holstein Thu 17-Dec-15 14:56:36

Tell him what you've told us. It's hardly your fault!

plantsitter Thu 17-Dec-15 14:58:31

God I hope this isn't a Love Actually moment (sorry).

Can't you package it back up and pretend not to have seen it?

FredaMayor Thu 17-Dec-15 15:02:26

I couldn't do it to him, Holstein, as I said he would be totally gutted. My acting skills are non existent too, even the DCs will instantly see that I'm not genuinely surprised. I so wish this hadn't happened!

plantsitter, the gift is a once in a lifetime, hugely special treat and has me in tears just thinking about it. Even worse, now I'm worried that when I see him at home this evening he will know by my face. Damn and double damn.

Holstein Thu 17-Dec-15 15:14:13

Well, he's going to know unless you say it hasn't arrived.
Do you have a lovely neighbour? That could pretend to have taken the delivery for you, and tell DH that theyd opened it? Could you take acting lessons?

dancemom Thu 17-Dec-15 15:18:32

You only have 2 options.

Tell him or don't tell him and pretend.

Pick which one is the best option for you.

Stillunexpected Thu 17-Dec-15 15:22:15

You have to tell him. Otherwise why would you have a package sitting in your house addressed to you which you haven't opened?

ThroughThickAndThin01 Thu 17-Dec-15 15:23:22

I'd have to tell him. I'm too honest, I couldn't keep the secret or feign the surprise and wonderment needed.

Danglyweed Thu 17-Dec-15 15:23:37

Repackage, address to husband and repost it

Fivetoomany Thu 17-Dec-15 15:23:39

Most importantly, what is it???smile

Madbengalmum Thu 17-Dec-15 15:26:56

Yes, im intrigued.

FredaMayor Thu 17-Dec-15 15:38:43

It's one of those 'experience packages' tailored specially for me, Five, which is why it came addressed to me.

As you say, PPs, although it will hurt him I think I will have to tell DH although I'm dreading it. He so much wanted to make my christmas really special after a no-so-good year.

poocatcherchampion Thu 17-Dec-15 15:42:27

But it is special! A whole week extra special.

Gloss over the date and be delighted when he gets home.

Hassled Thu 17-Dec-15 15:45:09

You're clearly delighted with it and overwhelmed and emotional - which is just the reaction he wanted. So he sees the reaction a few days early - it doesn't really matter, does it? Just do the whole "I can't believe you were so lovely" thing tonight, because it sounds like you won't be able to hide how you're feeling anyway.

Fivetoomany Thu 17-Dec-15 18:32:34

Sounds lovely, just tell him and let him know how happy you are that he got it you!

Lweji Thu 17-Dec-15 18:36:26

He only has himself to blame for not sending it elsewhere (his work, a relative, a friend).
Does it really matter that you didn't open it on Christmas day?

FredaMayor Fri 18-Dec-15 09:56:54

Lweji has it, OH was cross with himself last evening, which makes him even more of a star in my book. I think my worrying about earlier it was in direct proportion to the really meticulous planning he did and the great expense he went to. Thanks for all your replies smile.

Glad it all worked out OP smile

Can I also congratulate you on use of the correct topic. I didn't even know we had an ethical dilemma's topic. If we add petty gripes to this and WWYD we may well be able to get rid of AIBU
