You can download free e-books from torrents as well if you're handy with that sort of thing! But be sure you are careful, most books will have copyrights still valid, but I managed to get a huge load of copyright-free books (including many many classics!) from torrent sites, many bunch them together too!

also the paper and periodicals. granta tell me they're working on subcription but individual editions are downloadable (but not cheap i think).
