Maternity allowance

Just a quick query, have just been offered a new job and just discovered I am 7 weeks pregnant. Understand that I will not qualify for SMP but someone told me that in order to qualify for Maternity allowance I would need to have the same criteria as applied to Job Seekers allowance, which I would not get due to my husband working full-time, is this right? Sorry a bit rambly but am quite confused

No, to get MA you have to have beeen working for 26w in the 66 running up to your expected date of confinement. You will get £123 pw or 90% of your earnings whichever is lower.
What your husband does has no bearing on whether you qualify for MA or not. You can find out more on www.directgov.co.uk

Hope that helps!
