Dh has gone for 2nd interview. They said they want him to go to the pub with the team afterwards!

His first interview lasted 3 hours (2 weeks ago). Today they told him to dress casually. They want him to take a technical test - he's used to that - then go to the pub afterwards.

I guess this is so they can check out whether he fits with the team socially. A good thing, since he had awful trouble in this direction with his last job. But I've never known this happen before.

Anyone else done this?

I went to a 2nd inverview once where the other applicant was invited at the same time as me!!! The MD then took both of us to a local cafe and sat and chatted with us both, then at 5pm the other staff came and joined us!!!

I was very uncomfortable and the other applicant and the MD had a shared interest so guess who got the job. Worked out brilliantly for me though - ended up with a much better job!!!!!

Wierd scenario though I thought!!!!

Personally, I've done it once before. Dh has done it a couple of times. Seems to be a relatively normal thing these days as people begin to realise that being able to join in / fit in with the team is just as important as being 'qualified' to do the job.

Hope it goes well for him.

I once got taken to the French open for a second interview. Was only vaguely aware that it was an interview though, and the director was passionate about tennis and I er... am not. Didn't get the job!

It's a really good sign that they want to take him out to the pub. It used to be that technical knowledge got you the job and hopefully you would find a way to fit in. Now employers place a much higher importance on cultural fit because they know that this is something that they can't send you on a training course for. I've lost count of the amount of times that I've heard, they can do the job but they're just not the right fit. So advice to DH is don't get pissed, don't eat all of the crisps, don't tell dirty jokes even if others are being told, show an interest in everyones favourite topic (themselves and their company) and buy a round of drinks as it will be a good investment.

He knows not to get p*ssed, anyway he has a 2 1/2 hour drive back afterwards (I'm hoping this is our chance to re-locate, altho' I'm dreading the process of doing it).

I hope he gets offered this job, and I hope he likes the team. This will be his 3rd move in 18 months, as he has been very unsettled in his 3 previous jobs. Got offered a position last week, but chose not to take it, as it wouldn't challenge him enough long-term.

He's not working ATM, since he got 'invited to resign' from his last job at end of June, because he said he wouldn't stand for being yelled at by his boss (long story, there was a thread about this in Feb/March).

This happened to me once, but it was an informal meal with the team rather than the pub. I agree that it's usually saved for only 2 or 3 candidates, so it's a good sign. I'm really glad I went because I discovered that my team would consist of 3 very snobby girly women who were obsessed by their parking spaces! The meal was odd as they had pre-booked the menu and the main course was skate - really fiddly to eat - so it was quite satisfying to say, "oh, I'm vegetarian!" I think it's good to be able to get a glimpse of what people might be like to actually spend time with, interviews can be so misleading. Good luck to him!

Better not be [shocked]

I'm relying on him getting (and wanting) this job,
a) because we could move nearer my mum
b) because he can't be unemployed for long. We've just paid for the holiday we booked 5 months ago, and I've got clothes to buy for it before we go in sept.
