Are there any academics about who could answer a really basic question?

I am soon to change my name as I have now had a paper accepted (with a few stylistic revisions)! Hooray. Anyway, I just wondered, I have an email from the editor, with the decision. Is it 'normal' to email back saying thanks, and confirming when you will return the final paper, or is that just annoying and unnecessary clogging of said editor's inbox? I would ask someone in my department but I am embarrassed to ask such a basic question (it's not a terribly umm, friendly place shall we say!), and my mentor is off sick, and my ex-supervisor is also not around. Thanks in advance!

What is normal, is that you email with perfectly reasonable queries and they take 2 or 3 months to come back.
Or maybe 2 or 3 minutes to reply. Either one is possible (but 2-3 years months is more likely the more prestigious the journal).

Yes your question is perfectly reasonable! Congrats, btw . Which journal? (pure noisiness).

Thanks so much escondida! It's an inter-disclinary journal but sociology really and 4* so I'm pleased! I've been amazed really at how quickly they've turned it around. About 6 weeks between revision and being accepted for publications. From what I've heard that's quite quick.

Many congrats nopubs!

Yes, it's absolutely normal to email back. I agree about the 2-3 minutes/months - that does seem to be the academic way with email...

Thanks inveterate! I'm about to send the final version off, but have been overcome by an attack of the heebie-jeebies because I can't believe it's actually going to appear in print! Feel like I'm finally on my way to becoming a REAL academic ... maybe!
