My exDP (13 YO Ds's Dad) has just been made redundant aged 59 (60 next April.) He has been working for the same company for 29 years in a very specialist field - he is a VTR Operator (Digital Film Editor) and Programme Certificator (censor!)
Although he earns over 30,000K PA, he is only entitled to a maximum legal redundancy payment of around £11,000.

He has no savings, lives in a Housing Association property and pays around £390.00 pcm rent + £130 pm council tax. He will be be eligible for £64.00pw Jobseekers allowance for 6 months when he loses his job next month, but will not get his occupational pension until he is 63 - in the meantime no other benefits (such as Housing Benefit) can be accessed until he has less than £6,00K left in savings.

He was a rubbish DP but has been a great co-parent - totally reliable with time, financial support, holidays, fun etc. for the past 10 years.

DS is very anxious about his Dad, who is shell-shocked and bereft. .

We will now lose his maintenance payments as well .... [guilty person emoticon]

We are trying to persuade him to take an HE course ASAP- just to keep himself occupied.

Any suggestions on how he can keep body and soul together for the foreseeable will be gratefully received. (He doesn't have much in the way of transferable skills either, bless his wee little organic Fairtrade cotton socks.)

But the daft old hippy deserves a Karma break.

Late Boomer-Generation expatriate Celtic Fringe Ex Pats(- particularly Dubs born between 1945-'60) please apply with creative ideas.
