end of probation - being let go. - URGENT PLEASE HELP

Ive got a meeting with HR at 1.30 this afternoon.

My probabtion period was extended by 2 months on the 18th september to the 18 nov. It was noted that they wanted me to:
Improve the petty cash - since then it has always been correct.

  • Spell check all emails - this is always done
  • improve minute taking. I have been on a course and produced one set of mins since then which were much improved and just slightly tweaked by the manager in the way i worded a few things... ie, i said theh 6 monthly reports were due in time for the next meeting, she changed it to due at the next meeting.

Anyway, i was called to see manager wed. They are not happy as apparently i talk too loudly on the phone ( an issue which has not been brought up before) and i wash up and make tea in the wrong order and that shows im not efficient... apparently.

I know, its the end of probation period so basically they can get rid of me with no reason, i think id be less offended if they offered no reason not these stupid excuses for reasons.

Is there any point me making a case to the HR woman ( who is from an outsourced company)?

I was told my sacking was not a forgone conculsion, but according to collegues an email went out telling staff yesterday.

I think you probably don't want to work for a petty company like that anyway! Cut your losses and find a better job.

Sorry to hear this. Do you really want to work for a company like this?

It sounds like they want you out, for whatever reason. You could try to make a case to the HR woman but I suspect her hands are tied - especially if she is outsourced, she will probably just be following orders

Are you allowed to take someone in with you? I had a similar situation years ago and the crap they came out with was unbelievable, I really wish I had taken someone in with me - even if it was just for support

For whatever reason they don't feel you are 'fitting' with their needs. Nothing you can do to change that. Just cut your losses and leave.

We have a problem in work at the mo not the same but similar (concrete reasons thou for not giving a perm contract unlike yours)

and basically our outsourced HR lady says we have to give 1 weeks notice and that is all. as it's the probation period still and the employee knows about it all then we as a company are within our rights not to keep her on.

(also it's very very unprofessional of your colleagues to be sent an email like this, very very bad.)

you also need to have the proper appraisals as well.

yeah - thats what i thought.
I was going to prepare something... but am wondering if there is actually much point.

Another point that was made was that the mananger had noted that a staff member was booking their own travel. This is my remitt. The staff member in question had said to me she wanted to book her own as she had a disabled rail card and didnt want anyone else to know and a lot of the time her husband took her in the car, or she didnt know ahead of times what her travel requirements were. This has been working fine for about 3 months. The manager must have seen her booking her own travel at brought it up at weds meeting. She said she was doing it as she couldnt trust me to carry the task out. I replied that we had an arrangement and that i have never messed up travel arrangements for anyone.

I called the staff member in question, who in turned called the manager who in turn retoted with that that was what she had assuemed, it was not her business and she doesnt have to report what she does to staff and then hung up on her.

So, no i dont want to work for a company like that. I do, however want to clear my name.

You know what - I would make my case anyway. The above points are ridiculous and they should be held accountable for their crap management of you and your probation period.

You probably won't keep your job there but it sound slike a really crap place to work tbh. Definitely point out about the email. That is HORRENDOUS!

I would suggest you make your case anyway. You never know if it might make a difference.

You have no rights in terms of protection from being dismissed for the first year of your employment - essentially they can just let you go without even giving a reason if they want to. But that doesn't stop you from making your case if it will at least make you feel as though you did everything you could to stand up for yourself.

I dont really want it to make a difference. I wouldnt work there any longer if they trippled my wage.
However, i do want to rubbish the ridiclous reasons. I find it personally insulting and as i said it would be better if they gave me no reasons than came out with this rubbish.

I know they want me out, and that ive lost the job. So the only thing i can do is to not go quietly.
