I am due to go to back next month but decided last month that there is no point in going back. I was planning to ring my boss to resign rather than go in as it is a trek down the motorway and I will probably never see any of them again anyway. I feel really nervous (no idea why) do you think it is acceptable to resign by phone? Or is it a bit off?

I think you should put it in writing as well (although they will probably ask you to do that anyway). Totally understand that you feel nervous though - best of luck!!!

I'd write a letter to be honest. More formal.

Don't know about your employer but mine requires written notice of resignation. Good luck to you, tho!

You will have to provide a letter anyway and, as you might want a reference from him/her, I'd go in in person. A phone call is a bit abrupt.

when i was pg with dd, i resigned by letter. I had been off sick for 4 weeks and couldnt go back.

I wrote a letter saying it was in my best interests that i didnt return.

I got a letter back thanking me for my service and that my P45 would follow.
HTH

I would call first, and follow it up with a letter. Perfectly acceptable not to go in and do it in person.

HI
I resigned from my p/t job just a few weeks ago - i rang my boss and told him but followed it up with a letter. I just gave my reasons for having to leave and said a bit about having enjoyed working with the company. Also asked them to confirm they would give me reference and that pay, holiday pay, p45 etc would be forwarded to me.

I dont think you really need to go in person - just write them a nice letter after calling them.

HTH and good luck X
