Self employed and problems with the Revenue!

Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem:
I'm self employed, and registered back in February of this year. As yet, I haven't received my self employment registration number or tax district from them. I called them over a month ago and they said they would send it immediately - nothing received. I just called them again and they said the same thing, that it would be sent in the post. They said they couldn't give this information out over the phone - I asked why not, and they said it was 'a rule'. I asked again, and asked the woman to explain why this is. She couldn't explain why, and said again that it was just a rule they had. Surely it's safer to give this info over the phone (as I had to give full name, NI number, date of birth, full address and home phone number before they would speak to me - which is fair enough) - rather than put it in the post?

Surely 6 months and two asks is a bit much, considering I can't be paid for the work I've done for some companies, as they won't accept my invoices without this info?

Does anyone work for the Revenue and care to explain why things take so long? Any other MN'ers had problems dealing with them?

You can go into your local office and they should give it to you.

the Revenue always take forever i'm affraid. ALthough 6 months is excessive!

They won't give out anything like that over the phone, I've tried many times but they always have to send it in the post.

Where did you send the original form to? I'm suprised you haven't heard anything yet, that's really very slow

Hi Eddas - somewhere in Newcastle I think, but I've just receieved my tax assessment form from an address in Norwich.
Fluffy - how do you find out where the local office is? Will they definitely give it to me if I go in?
Just seems very annoying when THEY charge us for anything being late!
