Hi, I have an interview soon for a post as a tutor/marker but it is freelance. I will have other main job as a nurse.

Is it complicated to work freelance?

Not ime. You need to register with IR and fill in a tax form once a year, and pay NI. You'll need to save as money comes in for your end of year tax bill.

Will you be self-employed or will you be employed on a zero hours contract/flexible contract by the company?

classed as self employed.

most of the info you need should be here. It isn't hard. it might be worth ringing the helpline - if your s-e earnings are under a certain amount some areas let you do a much smaller form than a full tax return. I can't remember quite what it's called - but I know it exists because one year when I had a main paye job and did a small piece of s-e work I was - annoyingly - about £100 over the limit and had to do a proper one.

I've never found it hugely complicated. There were also years when I was mixing employment and self-employment. You just have to make sure you fill in the right bits of the tax return.

I also find it so much easier to do it online (as I do now) than on paper (as I used to).
