Possibly a dim question - is SMP paid pro rata if you are part time?

I started mat leave mid-way through November, just had my Nov payslip and struggling to make sense of it. Before I go harrumphing to payroll on Monday, thought I'd better make sure of this. I work 2 days a week, does this mean that I only get 40% of SMP?

SMP has nothing to do with your hours, it's worked out on your earnings. For the first 6 weeks, which you are still in, it's 90% of your average weekly earnings. After that, it's a flat rate of £117 (unless 90% of your earnings is less than £117). Have a read here.

So if you started mid way through November, you'd expect your pay to be made up of about half normal salary and the other half 90% if that makes sense?

tbh I am at a complete loss as to how they calculated this payslip at all - my usual take home pay is around £450 and this month I appear to have been paid £277, which seems a little on the low side, seeing as mat leave didn't even kick in until last Monday.

Give 'em a ring Monday. In a non-harrumphing, 'can you just very kindly explain to me how this £277 is made up' way.

It doesn't sound right to me, if your normal take home is £450, but hopefully if it isn't correct, in the course of explaining it to you, lovely payroll person will go and put it right pronto.

Thanks flowery - will do that (just back from putting a fractious toddler to bed). Will gird my loins as this isn't the first time that payroll have messed up and I forsee weeks of wrangling . It's a small charity and they use a payroll company.
