1. The coffee fairy. Who ensures there is always coffee, milk and sugar in the kitchen. I have never had to make a mad dash to the corner shop because we've run out.

2. The toilet paper fairy. Same as above. Also applies to paper towels and soap.

3. The cleaning fairy who ensure the toilets, kitchen and the office generally are 20x tidier and pleasanter than home.

4. Clean windows. Never had to stare pointlessly out of the window through smudges and streaks.

5. People are polite. No-one ever grunts at me, ignores me or says 'but it's not fair. X had some', or 'I don't want to do Y'. They might be cross about something but they confine themselves to mildly snotty e-mails copied to someone else. No-one tends to have tantrums and throw things.

6. If I make an effort to scrub up a little no-one says 'Mummy why are you wearing those funny shoes?'. They might think it but they don't say it.

7. People always say please and thankyou, and I never have to say 'what do you say?' when I fix a problem, or e-mail a report.

8. Most of all, whilst I am grateful for all these, I am most grateful of all that these things happen without me having to do anything about it! And it they don't, it's somebody else's fault.

<happy sigh>

9. There is always paper, pens and paper and they are always lovely and new and no-one has chewed them or drawn dinosaurs on the paper. And when my chair gives me back ache I get a new one!

10. I generally need to ask only ONCE for something to be done, and don't usually need to resort to bribery / shouting / blood pressure tablets.

Tee2072 Tue 28-Oct-08 14:38:15

Those things all sound great, except that I work as a Personal Assistant/Office Manager so I do numbers 1, 2, and 9 at both home and work!

PuppyMonkey Tue 28-Oct-08 14:41:46

We've got a canteen and you can get a full roast dinner for £2.75. Heaven. They even do cornflake tart sometimes. Yum.

OrmIrian Tue 28-Oct-08 14:56:43

Aha filz! I think they are recruiting. But it's to drive fork lift trucks grin

14. Getting some money at the end of the month and feeling you can spend that extra ££ on shoes/theatre tickets/whatever because you've earned it.

15. Surfing the 'net without someone looking over your shoulder trying to see if they can spot rude words.

OrmIrian Wed 29-Oct-08 10:03:07

pumpkin - I agree whole-heartedly with no 20! When I first had children it was such a novelty I told everyone about them at the first available oppurtunity. I suspect I was a bit boring grin on the subject. Now I can be someone else and I enjoy that. No-one needs to know I have 3 DCs and a chaotic home. I enjoy sailing out through the front door looking smart and tidy and being snot and sick-free.

21. Then there's the extra payment I just received because they didn't change my hours to full-time on the Payroll system in time for the payslips. Made me very happy indeed grin

22. Days when your meeting unexpectedly finishes early, and neither your boss or your DH are expecting to see you for at least 3 hours - leaving you in the centre of town only steps away from a great many attractive shops...

23. The more effort you put in the more you are appreciated and the greater the sense of achievement you feel.

Anna8888 Wed 29-Oct-08 14:13:50

24. Air conditioning in the hot summer months

OrmIrian Wed 29-Oct-08 16:12:04

25. Getting home to 3 DC who have been picked up from school, lunchboxes cleaned and prepared for next day, and fed their evening meal.

They are a bit old to be ready for bed at that time but near enough!

Tis wonderful. Now all I have to do is develop a going-for-a-drink-with-colleagues-after-work habit wink

Cornflakemum - that truly is delicious.

27. Being an equal with DH again in terms of domestic responsibilities and family responsibilities. Loved maternity leave but prefer the equality.
