Starting a new job this week - tips for good first impression?

Hi all!

Starting a new job shortly (corporate) within a small firm. Fully expect it to be high pressure although comms from my colleagues seem warm and friendly which is great!

I will be coming it a mid level (a year PQE) so mainly supporting the partners and senior colleagues.

Anyone have any tips? I saw something about “zero inbox” which I will try and implement, keeping all emails filed away. It will be strange starting things remotely so any tips for that, making a good impression, being visible etc?

Thanks

I don’t have any helpful tips, unfortunately, having been out of the game for a very long time, but wanted to say congratulations on your new job and hope it goes well 👏

We're a small professional services company, and we're in the process of starting a couple of new people. We have worked hard to come across as approachable and friendly in the preboarding stage - hopefully they/you will have your introductions to everyone planned - junior member of staff was introduced with his manager. Senior manager made appointments with everyone in advance to get to know them and their jobs. But the usual things apply responding to requests quickly regardless of what level they come from. Enthusiasm to learn, balance between asking questions and respecting people's time by doing your own research for the answers when applicable. Make sure you are checking in with your manager regularly to ensure you are on the right track with expectations (they should be on top of this but if not you will have to manage the situation). Good luck - for us it hasn't been anywhere near as weird as we expected.
