Am redundant from end-Nov - will be 4 months pregnant - maternity pay?

I'm redundant from my job at the end of Nov when I will be 4 months pregnant. Am not eligible for any maternity pay from my company - does anyone know if I will get any sort of maternity benefit from the Government?

Hi bunyanvillas

Sorry to hear you will be made redundant at a most inconvenient time!

You will probably be entitled to Maternity Allowance see here for more information about entitlements and what you get.

I am assuming you are satisfied that it is a genuine redundancy situation?

Yes, it's genuine and I'm ok with that. Just fretting about money. Think I will be JUST about 26 weeks pregnant when I leave but might be several weeks less than that - would that mean I wouldn't be eligible, do you think?

you should get the basic 106 per week maternity allowance

As long as you have been in work of some kind for 26 weeks out of the 66 before you are due you will be entitled.

So basically that means during the 15 months before you are due, you must have been at work for 6 of them.
