Preparing for redundancy call

How do you prepare yourself to be told you're being made redundant? I suspect it is imminent.

I'm worried I'll cry or get angry or want to tell them exactly why they shouldn't be getting rid of me. I want to prepare so that I can behave with dignity and not make them thank ful they did it. Has anyone gone through this?

They need to go through a process - have they done that?

In other words are you waiting for the result of a selection for redundancy exercise?
If you have been selected, you need to find out if there is an appeal procedure and what that is.

Remember you can always end the call and say you want time to think about what they have told you.

If you are definitely being made redundant at the end of that, find out what they are offering in terms of pay, stuff you can take away with you etc (e.g if there is a company car, can you keep it for a few months following the date you leave)?

Also, see what support they give - training for job hunting afterwards, skills re- training - think about your best outcome of you are going to leave and ask for that support.

I've had my redundancy consultation today. I was surprisingly calm actually, although very upset afterwards. I've been there a long time and some of my team are like family! I've put forward by reasons against my redundancy, but I'm not feeling particularly hopeful to be honest. I'm lucky in that I've got savings behind me however I'm feeling very sorry for members of the team who don't have savings, they have mortgages and young families. It breaks my heart that I can't save them.

Try and keep as positive as you can OP. As PP said, there is a protocol that they have to follow...they can't just call you and make you redundant. Try not to worry until you know you have too.

Best of luck.

Thank you for replying. I don't know much about the process so I suppose I'm expecting that first call. I will make some notes and have them to hand for when it happens.

So sorry to hear it has happened to you Whatinfreshhell
. We will be similar in that we have enough insurance and savings to live for a while, but my career will be in tatters. I have said that I will look out for my team but once they have decided there will be very little I can do. What horrible times we live in.
