Hi so I really need some help. I work shifts 6-14:00 and 14:00-22:00

I've worked at the same company, factory production operative for 7 years.

My wife has Huntingtons disease and she has really been struggling lately with symptoms of the illness, she struggles to function, she's had her hours and role reduced by 3/4 by her work as she is getting clumsy, I fully understand her works decision

We have 2 boys our oldest is autistic and attends special school, he is 7 and it's common that he has to be restrained or held back with force

Anyway my shift pattern often means I struggle to known where I am for appointments regarding my shifts, my wife struggles to get the kids ready for bed and my oldest doesn't sleep properly. Also my wife is dangerously at tea times when I'm not in she forgets to shut the front door fully and is clumsy in the kitchen, she has heen known to leave the gas on, burn food often she is really struggling with her concentration

I've been discussing with a friend and he said why not request to work on 1 permanent shift

6:00-14:00 would be ideal because its the longest time that the kids are out of the house because of school. And i can get my sister to help before school. Plus my wife is much safer making cereal than cooking which then kids have in the morning.

ANYWAY.. I just want to know if anybody has or can do me a letter template please with correct punctuation. Also advise me on who I need to get any appropriate letters off to help my application

www.gov.uk/flexible-working/applying-for-flexible-working

This guide details everything you need for a formal application for flexible working.

Have you spoken to anyone in your company informally? Do you see any reason why they wouldn't be able to keep you on the early shift?

@leghairdontcare

Thanks for the link I'll be sure to read it tonight once the kids are in bed.

My work dont really want to do much to help staff by past stories ive heard. I will speak to them next week informally but tell them I have written a letter request too
