Can this job offer be retracted?

Looking for some employment advice. My DH has just been verbally offered a job. He has recently found out that he will need to have a minor operation but has no idea when this will be. Due to the nature of the job, he would need probably a month's recovering time, possibly longer or at least on lighter duties for a bit. As soon as he was offered the job he explained this and the assistant manger said he was unsure what to do now and would get back to him after speaking to the main manager. What can he do in this situation? Can they refuse him the job now? He should be hearing from them later today. Thanks

Is the operation due to a disability?

No it's not.

Well if it’s only been a verbal offer, no t&cs issued and the reason for the extensive time off wouldn’t be a disability then I’d say they can withdraw it yes. If they’ve decided your DH is the best person for the job it would be a bit shortsighted of them though, so hopefully they won’t.

Because he wanted to be honest and there's a possibility he could find out a date for the op soon. Thanks for all your answers.
