name changed so as not to identify. DD is about to finish a maths degree at a top uni. She has signed up for an integrated masters and rather wishes she hadn't because she has had a complete change of mind. At uni she has become super interested in sports science and nutrition. Shame she didn't originally apply for that or medicine but hey ho. Anyway. Is there anyone out there working in that field who can suggest a one year Masters or another way to get in using her maths? Or has she blown it? She's planning on doing a personal training qualification this summer - although that's really just to bolster her chances in the field i mentioned rather than to become a personal trainer. All the courses I've looked at suggest she needs a sports science undergraduate degree. And starting again on another 3 year course is not an option!

Sports science people often end up self employed as personal trainers I'm afraid. She's better off persuing the maths.

Yes. I know. And that worries me. But she has discovered that she no longer loves maths, and i'm grasping at straws really to find a way that maths can be used in sports science, not so much as a personal trainer but maybe higher up the food chain. Am a hopeless arts graduate. So I know nothing!

I've worked in high performance sport for nearly twenty years, although on the admin side. If she wants to use her maths, the best roles would be in performance analysis. Most governing bodies and professional teams use them - everything from high speed cameras for athletics to data analysis and intelligence for football matches.
The English Institute of Sport used to do paid intern roles - look on their website, plus their Scottish and Welsh equivalents, and also UK Sport.
