How do I stand up for myself?

I have recently started a new job, for the most part I enjoy it.

There’s is one lady however that I work for who I am really starting to struggle with. I had been warned by numerous other staff that she is difficult to work for but have only just started to discover this. Everything I do is wrong, even if I am sending updated copies of previous reports there’s always something that needs changing. I know she’s like this with everyone (and I’ve heard her really going off at a colleague in the middle of the office) but the majority of my workload is work for her. She makes me feel stupid and doubt myself and it doesn’t help that (probably due to nerves) I have made some silly mistakes.

I have come across women like this is my past two roles (one of which caused me to leave). I know it’s not all me as in all situations I do not have the same issues with other staff I work for and also other staff have commented on the same issues with these women.

I don’t want my working life to be miserable but I just cannot seem to assert myself and I do get upset about it.

How do I learn to work with this type of person?

The general advice in these sorts of situations seems to be: get it all in writing.
So if she asks you to change x in the report, do so, and then send it to her writing as requested I have changed x. If its more complicated send a mail before you start saying please confirm that you want me to change abc in this report.

Otherwise read nice girls dont get the corner office.

Update cv just in case.

Oh and join a union if you havent already.
