Changing jobs whilst TTC

I have recently decided to start applying for jobs selectively and moving to another school. I'm currently a teacher but looking to change to a TA because it gives me more family time.

The issue we have is that we are ttc and I will have a long notice period of a term if I hand my notice in (a new job would start in September) and if I get a bfp between now and then I'll be stuck. I'll have no maternity and we will struggle on me having zero income (a baby won't cost us anything for the first year because we have clothes already and all the pram etc so they'll need nothing else that costs.)

I don't want to put my life on hold on the off chance because I'm really unhappy at work. But the same way we have been ttc for three years and I don't want to put that on hold either. I've recently had fertility surgery too which will help our chances.

I really don't know what to do.

I wouldn’t hold off on applying for jobs as it may take a while to conceive anyway.
Even if you do conceive you should still be entitled to maternity allowance as you will have been employed for the amount of weeks necessary to receive it. (Have a quick google of maternity allowance - I’m sure you’d still get this).

@Matilda1981 thank you for that. It's been three years trying for a baby and I don't want to put my life on hold in the mean time. My consultant seems happy it'll work now but I'm not holding out hope 😆

Well fingers crossed for you, I hope everything all works out - Sod’s law dictates that if you move jobs you’ll probably get pregnant!!!

Someone I know changed jobs when she was TTC, the reduction in stress helped her fertility hugely and she got pregnant straight away!

Only slight concern I'd have would be maternity pay, may be worth changing job then stopping TTC for a couple of months so you're entitled to mat pay (statutory at least, you get more money than maternity allowance).

Good luck!

No 100% change jobs you will be happier and I reckon that slight change in stress level might help the BFP
