Hello.

I got made redundant on Monday due to the company decision to shut down my branch (we're nationwide but our branch hasn't been making any money).
It's not a total shock as the sales force in my branch have been underperforming for a while but as an administrator I just felt helpless in the situation.

As I've been there 4 years I was told if be getting some redundancy pay but haven't received my letter yet outlining it.

It's been a bit of a hard year and is only just gone back part time after being on maternity leave.

I have completely lost my mojo and don't really have the confidence to apply for anything.

Has anyone been in this situation before and how did you pull yourself together and get back into work?

If in UK apply for Universal credit or job seekers allowance cannot be back dated. Update your CV and Linked In profile. Do you have any contacts that could offer you employment ? I know it's an emotional roller coaster, but only you can find the next job, don't give up !

As you're an administrator, I'd have a look at jobs in schools, would work well for time off for school holidays for the future.

I am in this situation right now.

After a few days I sent my CV off to as many relevant job ads as possible, and a few recruiters contacted me as a result. I’ve had a few interviews too and trying to keep my options open. My advice was don’t be too picky and have an open mind. You can also sign on for jobseekers for a bit of extra cash (if you haven’t already)

Try your local citizens advice... they'll talk to you about employment right through to coping with stress. Hope you get sorted!

I was made redundant in 2016 due to a restructure - I failed to get the only alternative role I could go for and they refused a job share request from me and another lady on another. I didn't qualify for any redundancy pay as I hadn't been working there long enough (started after having DD1).

I wallowed for a day or so then started scouring the local job sites, council job opportunities etc. School admin work is great if you can get it for the holidays and if you already have admin experience all the better. Your local newspaper site should have a jobs section too. Check every day for new roles, some will close as soon as they have enough applicants so won't be live for long.

Lots of jobs have application forms now rather than CV (still update you CV though) but when you have to describe how you meet the requirements address each one (I literally used to go down the list and do it that way) - don't just copy and paste the same statement to all of them.

Good luck!
