I want to be busy!!!!!

Ive started a new job doing some admin work for a well respected company. The people i work with are lovely and i seem to have made friends with them already. Ive been here 2 weeks however and i still dont have a contract or a company email. I dont have a log on to the phone so i cant answer it. Can't use printer or photocopier without log on. I dont have anything to do. I have had bits and pieces from people but about 2 hours a day max. I keep asking people for work but i think im annoying them. They keep saying no thanks. I feel really aware that others aee working and im not. I keep asking my line manager and he wont give me any work. So i keep doing the filing in the basement even tho i shohld be on reception (we see about 2 people pee day so im waiting around doing nothing apart from 10 mins interaction fron these people!)

AIBU to think i should be given clear tasks to do per day? Or should i just keep quiet and look busy?

They might be a well respected company but they sound like a shower of shite wrt getting things organised - you should have had all the log ins etc you need by now. Is there an HR department you can chase up?

My job is similar. I've got log ins, but absolutely 1 hour of work per day. The day drags and I feel bad as everyone else is busy. I've raised this with my manager, but no more work gas materialised. I'm on a contract until Easter so guess I just need to ride it out until then.
Have you asked your manager to chase the IT team for the log ins?
2 weeks is a long time. Probably best not to keep asking busy people for tasks. They often can't spare time to show someone and some may feel threatened about sharing their work. I've experienced lots of this.
I'm sure you'll be busy soon enough. At least they seem friendly.

I have emailed HR today. But to be honest, I'm not even sure what good the log on will do anyway. I have no clear tasks. My manager is all very smiley and nice but sometimes ill be sitting at a desk for hours with nothing to do. Manager said it will get busier but its been 2 weeks and i feel like im just expected to do nothing and its really not me

I found when temping that asking for work had zero effect. Playing minesweeper works like a charm. Now I think I would do an online course to pass the time.

Also take charge. Find out who is responsible for phones and logins and go find them or contact them.

How long can you hold out for? Give yourself a date on which you will evaluate your time. Use the time to apply for jobs.

This was literally me until last week. I was based on reception and had log ins but the job was so ridiculously quiet, for most of the day I was just sitting around doing nothing. I came from a very busy company beforehand so this environment drove me crazy as I was so bored. I lasted 8 weeks - I resigned and I don't regret my decision for a second.

I've got this job after working in retail after my postgraduate degree, the money is decent, and I can't justifiably quit as I have nothing to go to.

I'm so sad, I can't imagine going back to job searching, but obviously, sitting around all day will give me mind rot

So tomorrow I've decided to contact HR in person - say I need log in, contract and staff ID. I will tell my manager that I would prefer more work to do as discussed Friday (asked me if I was busy enough, said that I would actually like more tasks to do to help the team- said he would sort this). I've decided to stop asking people too - and I will use my time on the desk to just look for jobs. I will give until the end of Feb and then I will decide what I need to do.
