Having to take time off for poorly child

My little one is ill, and contagious. So no sending them to the CMs and no school. Which means Dh and I are currently sharing the time off, a day each.

Dhs work policy says that he can "take one paid day off to arrange childcare" but we cant send him to childcare as he is infectious. My work cant even confirm what their policy is Grin.

How does anyone else do this?

Anyone in my team can have up to 1 day paid then any longer has to be unpaid. They can take annual leave as long as there is availability on the calendar. We used to allow annual leave all the time until a few people were using unwell children as a reason to get fully booked weeks off.

Most people use a mixture of annual leave, unpaid emergency leave and other childcare if they have it, or at least taking turns as you mention.

Will your employer allow you to use annual leave at this short notice for this sort of thing?
