When would you resign?

I've been offered a job to start in Feb 2018...if I accept it, when should I tell my current employer? I have a 4 week notice period, but should I tell them sooner?

I guess it depends if you think they'll want you out the door quickly or will want to keep you as long as pos and will be appreciative of the notice. After Christmas might be a good time?

Obviously, you only HAVE to tell them 4 weeks before you plan to leave. It's up to you if you tell them sooner. If you are leaving with no hard feelings and you may be difficult to replace, then a bit more notice would be nice but you don't have to at all.

Nothing til offer in writing. Then as per your contract notice.

Can you afford to take a few weeks off between jobs? I would recommend that if it's a possibility, just for a break.

Don’t be in a hurry. Wait till everything is in writing and then give contractual notice.

I've been in a recent position. Starting new job in Jan and four weeks notice. I've told them already verbally with a view to putting it in writing four weeks' before.

Because I'm a nice person and I've been there a long time.

Though not sure why they've treated me like absolute shit but that's another story.

I'm making sure I get a couple of extra weeks off at Xmas though too.
