So my workplace doesn’t allow any part time working, reduced hours or flex working. My boss is however on an ad hoc basis allowing me to work from home informally one day a week. I’m not to talk about it in form in case precedent set.
I have to ask her at beginning of each week if there is a suitable day. She randomly mentioned no home working if someone is on annual leave.
I didn’t realise she was on annual leave for two weeks. Last week I worked late and emailed her (she was emailing me already) and asked if I could work from home the next day. She said yes.
This week I’ve had no late nights and not heard from her as much. My husband thinks I should email her again on annual leave to ask for day working from home or just take it without her saying.
I said no as informal arrangement could be taken off me and I’ll take hit this week. Was an ad hoc arrangement.
He has gone nuts at me and saying I’m letting boss walk over me. He has always worked in public sector and pretty much does as he wants. He can’t understand I’m private sector and it doesn’t work that way.
He’s annoyed it’s half term and he has kids all day (he’s a teacher) and he wanted me to work from home so I’d be able to finish at 5 to help him.
Should I have just taken the day? Emailed boss on annual leave? Husband is mad at me.
