Maternity leave, new job, same employer, different location

I'm currently 5 months into my maternity leave, a position that was my ideal job came up. I applied, interviewed and have subsequently accepted the position.

I'm aware that if I was returning to my current position before the year was up that I would have to give my employer 8 weeks notice, however, my job is within a different location and different job title but same employer which is a local government.
Can anyone advise on notice periods and using up accrued annual leave, this is slightly complicated in that the new job is term time.

Hi there
Congratulations on the new baby and new job!
Do you actually need to 'give notice' because it's the same employer? With your accrued annual leave, I imagine they might want you to use it up (or some of it), at the end of your maternity leave and before you start your new job. It will be worth checking the HR policies your employer has and maybe talking to HR if you can't find what you need.

Agree with Rodeo to expect some hints about using accrued holidays before taking up new post, but surely you won't need to give notice as such? It will be continuous service, surely?

The internal procedure about what happens with regards to internal transfers will be specific to your employer, that's not a legal thing. In my experience a date is agreed between the relevant parties. As you are on maternity leave presumably you will start the new post when you return. What date they use as being the effective date of your transfer is an internal matter. Liaise with your new and old managers. The same about accrued holiday.

In terms of giving notice to return from maternity leave early, the fact that you will be returning to a new job has no impact on that, it's still 8 weeks.
