Work

Is this how sickness leave/pay works?

Hi, first post so hope it's in the right place!

I work for the NHS. I have been working there no more than a year so I come under the banned for 1st year of service terms.

It's pregnancy related so won't be going against my sickness record to take action against me, thank goodness.

In the first year of service, employees are entitled to 1 month off sick on full pay and a further 2 months off sick on half pay.

My question is, if I go back to work after taking the month and a bit off and then go back on sick leave again, does the clock restart? Or, is it only one month full pay off sick (and the further two months), per year?

So for example, if you go off sick again, you won't be entitled to the same sick pay again from the beginning because you have already used it?

Thank you for helping. I am currently suffering with exhausting HG sickness and my manager is trying to get me to come in on Friday for a sickness meeting Sad

Have been off for 8 weeks now, I think.

The one month then two months during the first year is a total entitlement, not a 'per absence' entitlement.

Okay, so safe to say I won't be getting full pay again if I need to go off again after trying to come back Sad

Otherwise people could come back for a day then go off again and get full pay indefinitely!

A month at full pay then two months at half pay is very generous.

Hi,
I had HG too it's awful I really feel for you. How far along are you? Have a look at how maternity pay is worked out because some are off work for the 'qualifying' period so it can be affected. Take a look at pregnancy sickness website for information. Do you have any leave you could take?
Also I would agree with pp it's usually in any 12 month period - I was on ssp for quite s while ☹️
